1701: Gold Reviews

1701 is impressive visually but seriously lacks in playability. It's very Sim-like: you do little more than manage your economy. Not recommended. It's like working as an urban planner without the paycheck. The exploration, doplomacy, and combat aspects are almost an afterthought, making for a one-dimentional and boring game.

I do have one complaint that I can't seem to get the trade function to work. Its not simple that I get bored but not so hard I can't play it to relax.

I've played for two days straight. It reminds me a little Masters of Orion II which I also love, so maybe I'm biased.

I like that each island has its own strengths and weaknesses and items it can't produce which forces you to colonize other islands. The graphics are good for a strategy type game, and I enjoy the different characters of the other computer players.

I like the diplomacy and the items you can research in the school. I've enjoyed learning this game.

I'm either misinterpreting the instructions or I'm just plain wrong, but manually sending my ships around is very annoying.

Althought theres been tons of these types of titles, this ones does it the best I think.

Great game. I would have liked to have been able to create islands from scratch in the world editor but the ability to create your own worlds adds another dimension to this game. You can spend over two hours playing this game without realizing it.

It is fun I love this Golden Edition to the game. I have been playing 1701 right after it came on the US market.
