took very little time to set up - 10 minutes top. It did what was asked. If you want a secure wired network - this is the way to go.
Before learning about the Actiontec, I thought it was going to take a long ethernet cable run from my basement router to hook the Tivo into my wired network before I could install VoiP. I love it when a plan comes together. Happily, thanks to the Actiontec, I now have broadband-connected TIVO and broadband telephone service. But, what the heck, I thought I'd give the Actiontec a try before going to that much trouble. I bought this Actiontec MegaPlug for my Tivo HD. I plugged one Actiontec adapter into my basement router and plugged the TIVO into the other adapter upstairs. After learning that I could save money by going to voice over IP for my phone service, I also learned that my TIVO, which was configured to update using my regular phone line, wouldn't operate on a VoiP phone.
Instant connection. I'm pleased to report that it works exactly as promised. Excellent product for a good price. The TIVO software found the ethernet connection immediately; no hasssle, no software configurations, no fussing around. With the money I'll save on my monthly phone bill, this Actiontec will have paid for itself in a couple of months.
This product works great. In 5 minutes you will be up and running. We couldn't get good wireless signal to our HD TiVOs and PS3 located in the corner of a room inside a TV stand. Now all three are working great with this product. Downloading HD content to the TiVos and playing games online with the PS3 are no problem.
It works great. This is the "BOMB". Took longer for me to walk from one room to the other then setting up the units. Wish I had gotten 2 packs. Saw this on another site and came to Amazon to see what their price and reviews were on it. Needed to expand home network for my Wife to work from and wasn't looking forward to having to run 75' of cat5 through walls. Only thing negative I could say is that it was on special when I brought it($49) and now 1 unit($56) is more then what I got the twin-pack for.
These powerline devices are incredibly simple to set up - just plug it in and it works. Wired networking is a lot more reliable & faster for downloading. An amazingly simple & effective way to network your home, as opposed to the slower, and often less reliable wi-fi solution. No need even to install the software. I have both wi-fi for my laptop, and these powerline devices for my desktop machines.
