ASUS Eee PC 1000H 10-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Fine Ebony Reviews

For god sake get this Eee PC and leave the Linux one's (Surf etc) at the store for disposal. Finally a good Eee PC. With this one you have XP as the OS no Xandros Linux which sucks, and this one actually had HD space and 1gb of ram.

I would like to add that I have no flimsy feel on the keyboard (also called flex), it is solid. Because it's XP it immediately integrated with my network. For me, the computer is a joy. The surprise is how well a 10 inch screen gives enough space for my browsing and email. First, a big thanks to all those who posted helpful reviews, particularly those with tech insights and suggestions.

Long battery life, good bootup time, etc. I prefer the Star programs over MS Works and they all respond well. Overall, this is the way to go if you travel or work from different locations frequently.

The touchpad is a little sensitive, and the buttons are a bit stiff, but I've already gotten used to it. Plenty of USB ports, and it works great with a bluetooth mouse. It's been great for every day computer tasks. I'm very happy with my 1000h. That said, it is a more capable gaming machine than I would have thought, considering the integrated graphics.

The real selling point for me on this one was the portability, and 3.2 lbs with 5-7 hour battery life is about as good as it gets. Otherwise keyboard is great - very close to full size and easy to use, even with my gigantic hands. And the lack of an optical drive is great for saving weight, but not really practical if it's your only computer. With the 1.6 Ghz Atom, it is not super-powered beast, but it's run just about everything I've thrown at it so far.

It seems solidly built, but it's not ruggedized or anything. First off, this is a slick looking machine. This is the first computer I've ever bought where game-playing wasn't one of the top priorities. Storage is good (160Gb), but not really enough if you have a lot of music or videos. The 1024x600 screen is sharp and clear, and is very visible even from side angles.

After reading way too many reviews for netbooks, it came down to a choice between the Asus 1000h or the MSI Wind. As others have said, the right shift position is a little awkward, but I mostly use the left so I haven't really noticed. As others have mentioned, however, it is a fingerprint magnet. It runs Office fine, decent Photoshop performance, great at web surfing and internet video. I have a decent desktop for that. This is a great portable computer but I wouldn't use it as my only machine. Wireless performance is good, thought I haven't tried it out on a Wireless N router yet. It plays older games quite well, including Diablo II, Jedi Knight II, Unreal Tournament 1, and it even runs Halo fairly well (with lower end settings).

I decided to go with the Asus 1000h with the 160GB hard drive, just because I've never had any problems with Asus motherboards. I'd been looking for a new laptop, something a little smaller and more portable than my aging Compaq that weights in at about 9 lbs with the battery. I replaced the neoprene sleeve that it came with with a bit thicker case, the Caselogic LNEO-10, which fits in my messenger bag no problem. It comes with Windows XP, which runs very fast on it.

Performance-wise, I'm reasonably impressed with this. It doesn't really matter to me what my computer looks like, but this is an eye catching device - shiny and svelte. Perfect for students or anyone who needs a very lightwieght laptop and doesn't have tons of cash to spend. In terms of price to performance ratio, this machine is flat out AMAZING.

Haven't used the webcam much yet but it seems pretty decent, though perhaps a little grainy.

I had a Sony VAIO Laptop, with 15.4 in screen but it weighed about 6-7 lbs with the battery installed. I loaded programs from optical drive on other computer on my home network. Worked great. The ASUS weighs about 3 lbs. 160 Gig HD is more than enough to load all the data and programs I need. Worked great, right out of the box.

WiFi was easy and fast. This is an awsome little notebook. Lack of optical drive is small inconvenience. Pound for pound and dollar for dollar, this is a great machine. BIG difference when carrying it around, in and out of airports, etc.

It will be perfect for traveling.

its so tiny, everyone I run into wants one. The touchpad could be a little bigger like my macbook but it's more versatile than my mac's touchpad. The overall processing speed is a bit slow, although I'm used to the lightning fast processing power of apple products I can carry it with me wherever and do not need to carry any power cables because the battery life is over 4 hours. This laptop gets 5 stars in terms of its size. install the drivers and you can have 2 finger and 3 finger functionality that you can customize.
