AT&T 953 Big-Button Phone with Caller ID
The telephone products produced by Advanced American Telephones reflect a long and distinguished history of product excellence dating back over 100 years. Today, its product range is one of the most extensive in the industry, including corded and cordless phones, answering machines, and phone-related accessories. The AT&T Big Button Telephone 953 with Caller ID/Call Waiting function provides you with all necessary features that you may need in your everyday life. Lighted display enables you to view the name, number, time and date of incoming calls at a glance, even those on call waiting. The 99-Name and Number Caller ID History function stores name, number, time and date of up to 99 incoming calls whether or not the phone is answered. Numbers stored in Caller ID history can be dialed directly from memory. If you subscribe to a voice mail service using visual message waiting indicator, the red light will illuminate when you have a message. The light also shows you when new calls are received. Ringer Volume Control allows you to adjust ringer volume from low to high or turns it off. Basic telephone features such as dialing and ringing will continue to work during a power failure.
The huge buttons on AT&T's big button caller ID/call waiting telephone help prevent misdialing and make a playful decorating statement. With additional features, such as caller ID, you always know who's calling you. Setting up most of the 953's features was easy--we just plugged in the AC adapter and the phone cord. Programming the memory dialing and setting the caller ID home and local area codes was intuitive and did not require us to consult the manual. When we first plugged in the phone, the device's LCD screen read, "12:00 a.m. January 1." This seemed to be a clock, as it displayed the hours and minutes, moving from 12:00 to 12:01, and so on. However, it was in fact an initial time/date stamp--a feature that records the time and date of a call along with the caller's name and phone number. Although the information was updated with incoming calls, we found the display confusing at first and wished that the 953 allowed us to reset this stamp manually, as other AT&T products do. In all other areas, setup went without a hitch. In our tests, the phone sounded clear, and the backlight made the LCD screen easy to read. Pros:
Cons:
- Time/date stamp looks like a clock

AT&T 953 Big-Button Phone with Caller ID Reviews
I ordered this phone for my home office and was so pleased with it that I ordered a second one for our kitchen to replace the cordless phone that always seems to be in my daughter's room. I think that this phone would still be a great value at twice the price. The display is very readable and all of the features seem to be very intuitive.
I wanted a phone with caller ID/call waiting, a good screen with plenty of information, and intuitive use. No more guessing who you called last when you hit redial. My only complaints are as follows: I wish the cord from the handset to the base were longer- it's so short that I can't stand next to my nightstand and talk on the phone without lifting the base off the nightstand and I'm hardly Shaquille O'neal (but this is obviously a problem easily remedied). Those are minor complaints- I highly recommend this phone, especially for the price. Something else I like is when you pick the handset up, it shows the last number you dialed and asks if you want to redial it- if you do, you just hit redial. You sound great."), and the use of the Caller ID, Call waiting, and volume controls is very intuitive.
That's exactly what I got. I haven't had *any* of the poor reception problems that another reviewer indicated (that person might have just gotten a bad apple). Also, the screen is lit and stays lit, so in the dark, you can always see who is calling you, even if you miss the first or second ring (One of my CID/CW phones doesn't light at all, and my other one only lights up for the first ring- so this new phone is much appreciated). The handset is very comfortable on the face, the sound is clear (people have even asked me "Have you gotten a new phone. Also, with my other caller ID/Call waiting phones I can punch the number into the phone without picking up the handset, check it on the screen, and THEN pick up the handset, causing the phone to automatically dial the number through(if that makes sense).
it's just the bad reception of the phone. I loved the large buttons however the quality of reception has much room for improvement. At times the phone fades in and out during a conversation and makes you think you were cut off yet you weren't. Just wanted others to be aware of the reception problem. Overall it's not a bad phone, in fact one of the better phones I've owned.
I really love this phone and depend on it to not only tell me who called, but when they called. I find the quality to be first-rate, and LOVE the larger keys because they allow my less than nimble fingers to dial it right every time.
