AT&T 992 Two-Line Corded Speakerphone with Caller ID Reviews
It's a real shame that a good quality phone is so hard to find anymore. However - like others have commented, I have to slam the engineers for this phone for the ridiculous beep added when pressing mute button - everyone on a conference call can here it and it's quite disruptive in a large group and everyone knows it's you muting and unmuting - I was outraged with this feature. With previous phones tried, either the volume on my end was too low and/or the volume on the other end was too low and they struggled to hear me. I bought this because I was unable to find a phone with a quality speaker phone for all the conference calls I'm on while working from home. For 60+ *#.$@ dollars I expect better. So the good news is that the speaker phone works great. Technology should help make things better but over time, seems phones are worse. Also - if you are a good multi-tasker, the mute button is poorly positioned so that it's just a matter of time before your finger hits the wrong spot and you embarrass yourself by hanging up.
the speaker phone on this phones sucks. you can't turn it up loud enough without getting a lot of distortion and the other person on the line can barely hear you.
Lots of problems, but the major issue is the dialing.
This is another example of "features" prevailing over basic functionality.
It also makes a lot of random noises that are very annoying in a quiet office.
Big mistake.
Incredibly annoying.
When I needed a replacement, I selected this supposedly similar unit.
You have to dial at an exact speed, not too fast, not too slow, or your call won't go through.
My previous "AT&T" two-lin phone worked great for years.
This is my last "AT&T" product.
This is the danger of licening out your brand name. Not sure if it is worth the trouble to get it replaced - especially after hearing the other reviewer's problems with tech support. btw - Don't be fooled by the "AT&T" on the label - it has nothing to do with the old Bell System equipment (the "Touch Tone" and indestructable black rotary dial phones) AT&T/Lucent Technologies sold off the consumer products business ages ago. Programing interface very confusing. The real AT&T should be ashamed. Speaker crapped out after 8 months - doesn't always respond when you dial a number.
Do not buy this phone I have called AT&T Their customer service is the pits. There is nothing wrong with my line or jack - this problem occurs on any jack in the house. This telephone has a nasty habit of not connecting when dialing. Also, when using another extension in the house, this phone picks up and does not hang up.keeping the line in use when the extension is turned off. Probably 20 percent of my calls need to be redialed.
