Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
The Baldur's Gate series redefined and reinvigorated the PC role-playing scene, and now Interplay brings it to the PlayStation2. Don't be fooled, however. This isn't a traditional role-playing game, but rather a fun, wall-to-wall action hack 'n' slash adventure in the mold carved by Gauntlet and the storied Diablo games--one that nonetheless conforms to the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Third Edition rule set. Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance casts you as one of three basic characters: an elf sorceress, a human archer, or a dwarf fighter. From there, you're set free inside a huge Dungeons & Dragons world replete with dungeons, forests, ice caves, and much more. Naturally, it's all filled to the brim with horrible monsters, wicked traps, treasures, and fabled magical weapons. As you go, you're constantly rewarded with new weaponry, new monsters to fight, and experience points you can put into your character stats to grow even more powerful. You can swap equipment in an inventory "paper doll" screen; those changes will be reflected in your onscreen character, so you'll start with simple weapons and a drab appearance, and you'll end up a big, mean superhero at the conclusion. The graphics are simply wonderful, and the controls are accurate, responsive, and fun to use--which is necessary for the constant hacking and slashing required. The game is all the more fun when you recruit a buddy and play the game in cooperative mode. --Bob Andrews Pros: - Fast, furious fun with great graphics
- It's even more fun with a friend!
Cons:- Might disappoint PC Baldur's Gate fans looking for something deeper

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance combines fast-paced action and adventure in the popular world of Baldur's Gate. It features an epic tale of intrigue, alliances, explosive spell effects, and highly detailed creatures and environments, and allows for both single- and two-player cooperative play. Characters are customizable, each with unique powers, appearance, and abilities. This is the first console game to feature Dungeons & Dragons, 3rd Edition rules in real time. Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance Reviews
Great fun with a friend, but we experienced some fatal programming errors (resulting in the need for restart of the entire game).
If your into action RPG's like myself, this is the grand-daddy of them all for a console. One of the best to ever come out for PS2 or any system for that matter. The gameplay and graphics are above most games coming out now for the PS2.
What would have made "BG:DA" perfect would have been the ability to custom make a character, and making the game longer would have helped as well. The game is a perfect balance being not too complex nor being too simplistic.
Until then, I'll just go back and play Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, from time to time like I still do to this very day. I'm still hoping one day someone will make another game like this one with more areas, longer game play, and custom characters. Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is in my top 3 favorite games of all time.
BG:DA 2 and Champions of Norrath 1&2 doesn't come close to being as good as this game.
3. That's something to look forward to. this is true to a certain extent. The enemies change, and battles get harder or more intense. And trust me.
2. I don't see how that can get boring. This may be mindless game play to some, but it's mindless game play at it's best. you get to run around and kill people.
Personally, I think it's great to have a game that you can sit down for an hour, and actually feel like you've played, rather than walked around and talked to people and bought supplies. Some of those enemies won't have time to chase you around anymore. And the enemies come at you differently, with several traps waiting around the corner. those spells and powers look mighty grand at level 70. However, if you play the game again, you get to keep your character and build onto experience points they already have. The game isn't much of an RPG- who cares. I don't see how that's repetetive.
The action cuts right to the chase, and there are always enemies coming at you. Besides, why buy a game if you can't play it several times. Not entirely true. No time to build your character. 1. I didn't see the point in writing a review, but after reading some of the gripes, I had to chime in. The game is repetetive, hack and slash.
Buyers beware It starts off really fun, gets you hooked then freezes right in the middle. I have purchased this game twice and have run into the same glitch in the middle. I know it's an old game but come on.
Pros: great grapics, great sound, fun to play, simple to learn. its even more fun with a friend *except the platforms that you must jump across in the first chapter doing this 2 player can be annoyingly difficult just have your friend take a dive off the side there till you get through it its the Only Hard Part) but the battles are hack n slash diablo esque style fights andand the bosses *last one made quite an impresion* are awesome and well voiced by the talented voice actors 5 star all the way and worth every penny especally if you liked Champions of Norrath or Champions at Arms also sweet games. a true classic game for the PS2 in Diablo Fashion. its an adventure spanning 3 chapters (yes that may seem short but the game can take from 10 hours to several days to beat depending on if you play little here and there or blow through it all at once) but honestly i used to own this and had regretted selling it now i have it for the 3rd time and BG DA2 and that makes this worth it especally the fact that you can play as drizzt and also can IMPORT your character into PART 2 making replay value high. Cons: only one i can even think of is the fact that if you play this you WILL want part 2 which is a little costly but if you buy or own this be sure to buy Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance 2 (PS2).
