magicJack Phone Device - 2 pack Reviews

- Won't let my computer hibernate or go on standby. Should work with Linux boxes. - I haven't yet had any call quality or dropped signal problems as mentioned in other reviews. - Requires computer to be on full time. It should also reduce my electical usage since the laptop will be a minimal configuration machine with only one purpose; running the Magic Jack. I'm in the process of setting up an old XP based laptop to be dedicated to the MagicJack. After a bit less than one month of usage, here is my input on the MagicJack product:. - Limited operating system support.

- insists on being in the foreground while booting. Pro's:. - Works with regular landline type phones. Overall, I recommend the Magic Jack but suggest using it with a cheap low power consumption dedicated computer. - Takes forever to boot.

- Voice quality, local and international, quite good (better than cell and near, if not equal, to landline). This will allow me to turn my main computer off when I'm not using it. - Inexpensive. Con's:. I'll have about $150 invested in the equipment when I'm done.

Also, if you chat with tech support they just read through the knowledge base, which you most likely already did, and their ability to write English is terrible. The software requires your computer always to be turned on and left logged on, instead of running as a service. The device itself is rather interesting, but it rarely works. It sounds much worse than a cell phone with lots of crackling and it often hangs you up. It may be a cheap phone bill but you're better off just not having a phone if you want to save money. The biggest problem though is the sound quality.

I have been using Skype for years, but Skype does have its days. I use my Magic Jack phone when Skype's call quality is lacking; it's a great back-up. I really like MJ and will renew my service next year. I've been using Magic Jack for about 4 months and have had no difficulties at all with it. MJ provides you with a local phone number which is great, you get connected quickly, and the sound quality is reliably good. Like Skype, it gives you the luxury of a different phone number if you are doing business from home, but don't want the little ones answering business calls or if you have an older relative in a different state and you want to provide her with a local phone number with which to reach you.

What I love about the voicemail is that every voicemail generates an email and you can listen to your messages on any computer (or of course you can access it from your phone). You can't go wrong here. I just love this and with my family all over the country it's really great to talk long distance all I want to, with landline quality, free. This phone comes with all the services you could want those that the phone company charges $6-$8 monthly for each one. You can go online and forward your MJ number to another number in the event of a power outage too. My magicjack is great - quality as good as landline and so close to free.

Often we can't receive calls in, or make calls out. Yes, free phone service sounds good and is a huge savings - but. The Magic Jack still needs improvement. the Magic Jack only works 50% of the time. Luckily, we don't use the phone much and we have cell phones, so this is not a huge deal, but still a concern. We have to reboot the computer a couple of times per day.
