I purchased this item a month ago. I loved it. It is small, very fast and toner lasts for thousands pages.
It doesn't stick out or get in the way. The printer is neat in size. K. I like the two toned color. I also like how the paper tray is inside the printer. It is easy to setup.
Takes just a few seconds to warm up, but after that, printed pages fly out. I'm happy with this printer and would recommend it to the average home user who occasionally needs to print in Black and White. I think I wasted more ink cleaning than printing. I noticed this Brother printer at a good price with a nice rebate. The installation with Vista (64bit) was simple and everything worked as it should. I was fed up with cleaning print heads on my inkjet printer just about every time I needed to print.
However, clearing a paper jam and changing the toner can be very frustrating. I've had to jiggle them for half an hour before I could get them out. Has all the good features mentioned by other reviewers. You have to remove the toner cartridge and drum to get at a paper jam, and these components do not come out easily. They don't simply slide out as shown in the diagram. For this reason alone I would not recommend this printer.
The solution is of course to turn it off when you're not using it. On the positive side, it is quite fast, much faster than the comparable HP printer. I also sometimes have problems when it wants to print from the manual feeder and will not change to the tray even though I manually changed the feed in the printer set up (this could be idiosyncratic to my office system). The manual feed is one page at a time and you have to wait until it "grabs" paper, so a 10 page document could take a long time. I don't mind the cycling at work so much, but at home it would be very annoying. Every so often it "cycles" on and off noisily. My HP printer at home is always on, but perfectly silent all the time except when it's printing.
