Brother MFC-440CN Photo Color All-in-One Printer with Networking Reviews

All the reviews I read said the print and color quality was very good to excellent. I found it quite easy to set up and my Vista program had no trouble connecting. But, I am rather disappointed to date.

My color appears washed out aqnd the blues are practically non existant. The issue I have with it is the color quality. I haven't performed any in depth trouble shooting yet, and it may be an adjustable problem.

OK-So I actually based my decision to purchase this MFC printer on reviews I found on this site. The reds and yellows have appeared as washed out and faded. I've tried to print images with vibrant blues and purples that have come out muddy browns and greens.

Couldn't find it on the disk. I can scan using the image capture from photopaint, and I've rarely tried to use OCR, but I'm rather miffed. It took forever to install, like half an hour, and the instructions didn't correspond to anything that actually happened. It came with 2 install disks, one labeled "MFL-Pro Suite" one labeled "Vista drivers." There was no documentation on the install procedure for Vista. I'd have rated it lower, except of course that all this trouble was really caused by Microsoft foisting this nightmare of unstable bloatware called Vista on us. Called brother support. Moreover, the promised scanning and OCR software did not install. Not even on the "Vista drivers" cd, just a file called "instructions" that said "put the disk in the drive, go to such and such folder [which didn't exist], and click 'start.exe.'" If I hadn't known that I wouldn't have been able to find the instructions.

Prints very nicely. The phone number was disconnected. Went to the brother support page, it was offline. Scans well. Once I jumped through the install nightmare (see below) it connected to my network. Went to the brother site, couldn't find it there. I went online and was able to download the Vista manual.

Using inkjet paper instead of copier paper (and telling the print setup that you're doing so) also clearly enhances print quality as is true with all inkjet printers. We use computers heavily, and of all the peripherals we have ever purchased, this device is one of the best values we have ever gotten. We purchased the 440CN last week for home and home office use. Like all printers, the 440CN allows you to choose the output quality for each print/copy, and if you choose low or medium, the quality is reduced (exactly as is done with other brands), but is faster and uses less ink.

Yes, if I were desiring to print photos or outbound marketing materials, I'd get a different printer designed specifically to product more-vibrant colors than this machine can produce. The 440CN was a breeze to install, the construction is outstanding (better than most current SOHO printers/scanners), and the driver install, config and functionality is superior (much better than our past experiences with Epson and HP printers). Our main need is to replace an older USB-only scanner with a networked scanner that can be easily shared among several users, and we also needed a light duty, low volume stand-alone copier. However, if you're looking for a home and home office printer for average personal use, this machine is entirely satisfactory in print quality, and fantastic in overall value because of its broad functionality.

Of course, if you can also choose to print in high quality as well, in which case the printer takes longer and produces a better quality result. We are delighted. Our experience with this device is that most reviews of it have been overly critical.

This is a freat multifunction printer but it is too expensive, I found the same product locally for $88.

And the ink is very reasonable too. It is, in my opinion, the best you can buy for the money. I absolutly Love this product.
