Brother MFC-5440CN Network Inkjet Printer, Scanner, Copier, and Fax Reviews
The Brother MFC 5440 cn cleans itself so often that it uses up cartridges with which I have only made 6 or fewer color prints with. Oh, one last thing. One has to completely UNPLUG the printer in order to stop the automatic cleaning cycles. To add insult to injury, if ONE of the three color cartridges is empty, it won't print a black-and-white page EVEN IF THE BLACK IS FULL. If I had to do it all over again, I'd avoid Brother printers. WRONG.
I thought if I turned the power off to stop the cleaning (so much for the fax function), that would stop the cleaning and therefore save the ink. I print color copies very infrequently as I also have an HP Laser printer on the same network. This is a nice printer - with one deal-breaker: It uses an insane amount of ink to clean itself. They are just too thirsty. I use the HP for 99% of my printing (and I don't even use the HP that often).
Whoever this crappy asian company is, they should all commit hari-kari. This is the worst printer I have ever used or seen. Stay away. The ink just goes into thin air, the printer james, the photos look like crap, and the user interface & software suck.
A money pit is right. It appears the ink must be allowed to evaporate somehow, and furthermore if you run out of one color the whole printer is useless until you refil it. Don't waste your money on this; there are much better printers out there. This printer just isn't worth it. There were at least 3 times where I bought ink and even though I only used the printer 3 or 4 times over the course of 4 or 5 months, the ink was gone and I'd have to buy refills again. Regardless of whether you're printing in B&W.
My only complaints are that this printer is slow. This does it all. It's a Multifunction printer.
I've had my printer for about 2 years now. This requires 4 catridges and if one ink cartridge is empty then it won't print unless it is replaced. I also notice printer will indicate that a catridge is empty even when the catridge still looks like it has some ink left. No need to buy a separate printer, fax, copier or scanner.
I Would recommend this to anyone who has a home office.
Brother has no idea what relationship marketing is, it seems obvious they are just after making the one transaction and not about keeping their customers happy. Brother has done a great job at creating a scam with their ink cartridges. I bought this because it had a pretty good rebate.a year ago I only paid about $80, still way too much money for this piece of CRAP.
So to all looking to purchasing a printer, stick to HP, at least they don't scam you as much with their ink cartridges. Shame on Brother for scamming consumers and making such a lousy printer. My ink cartridges were still semi full when the printer prompted me to change cartridges.like an idiot and because I needed to print, I went to the store and bought cartridges for $50.
In case you don't believe the rest of the reviewers, this printer is HORRENDOUS. Hopefully, people have caught on and have decided to ditch this piece of JUNK. They may have scammed us once but Brother has shot themselves in the foot by losing many customers.
Way overpriced for the print quality you get from Brother. I will never buy any other Brother brand product.
