It's strictly a device sold to generate ink sales. I liked the wireless capability. The worst piece of computer equipment I've ever bought - lesson learned - nothing from Brother, ever again. I bought this planning to do a modest amount of printing, as well as a small amount of copying & faxing.
After only a month, I needed to replace the ink cartridges, having printed less than 50 pages. After 6 months, it's running out of ink again. I'm replacing it and dumping it in the recycle bin. After spending about $75 for new cartridges, I decided to use it only for faxing (printing only a confirmation page) - whenever i was not faxing it was turned off.
Trust me, any positive reviews here were either written by Brother employees, or by people who did not have it long enough to realize they'd been had. Never used the phone except to fax. I subsequently learned that if you leave it turned on, it routinely and regularly eats its way through your ink supply.
I put in my last black cartridge. I leave it on to remind myself never to buy a Brother product again. The phone part still works, but the screen beeps all day long and says NO BLACK CARTRIDGE.". Someday I will get a boat, and this unit will become my $425.00 ($225 + $200 for ink) anchor.Brother MFC-845cw Color Photo Inkjet Flatbed All-in-One with 5.8GHz Cordless Handset I've owned this unit for about a year now, and the printing quit the third month.
She said, "OK, is there anything else I can do for you today." I said "IT STILL DOES NOT WORK." She said "I'm terribly sorry to hear that. The screen says "No black cartridge" or "Black cartridge empty". When I explained that the black cartridge would not be recognized, she walked me through the installation procedure AGAIN. I called the factory and got a semi-english speaking young girl that was programmed to say "I'm terribly sorry to hear that." She said it at least a dozen times in a two minute conversation. Is there anything else I can do for you today." I have 4 yellow, 4 magenta, and 4 blue cartridges if someone would like them.
I'm out of black. The screen said "No black cartridge". I put in 3 black cartridges in a row ($75.00) and it would not recognize them, and would not print.
This over all was a great purchase i received the printer in three days and my payment wasnt completely processed until after i sign for item thanks 1-10 i would rate 10+
The company was great to deal with. I have Vista and it took a while to get the drivers downloaded but it was well worth the effort. I have had it for a couple of months and it all works really well. This is a great all in one printer.
On top of it, the software and user manuals (both physical and on Brother's website) are pretty bad. The printer works ok when it works. The setup was horrific, very difficult.

I recommend Canon. I recently purchased a Canon laser (black and white) all in one for a similar price of the ink jet. Another main drawback is that the thing chews through ink.
After finally getting everything setup, it drops its wireless singal frequently, which means I have to go Menu -> LAN -> WLAN -> Setup WLAN.
