FINE Technology
What's the key to the iP1600's impressive performance? Canon Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) uses an innovative print head with 1,472 nozzles that eject consistent, precise ink droplets as small as two picoliters. It's a simple formula: more nozzles with higher accuracy equal amazing results. This patented technology produces an outstanding color resolution of up to 4800 by 1200 color dots per inch (dpi), and 600 by 600 black dpi, for exceptional detail and photo-realism. At the same time, the Canon ChromaLife100 system, combined with the iP1600's FINE print head technology, newly developed inks, and select Canon photo papers, yield long lasting photos that will retain their beauty up to 100 years when stored in an archival quality photo album.

Sharp, Clear Photos and Graphics
To further enhance printing quality, the PIXMA iP1600 Photo Printer uses high-intensity ChromaLife100 color inks for sharp, clear photos and graphics. Plus, its special pigment black ink delivers laser-like text, as well as a higher resistance to smudging when you're handling or highlighting a printed document. When it comes to speed, the iP1600 is equally impressive; it produces a 4 x 6 inch photo lab quality borderless photo in approximately 70 seconds. Print speeds range up to 19 pages per minute (ppm) for monochrome and 16 ppm for color. This machine is also versatile, and lets you print on a wide range of materials. Rather than limiting you to just standard photo-sized paper, the iP1600 can handle sizes from credit card to legal size, plus envelopes, in a wide variety of weights and finishes.

Canon Software Makes Customization Easy
The iP1600 comes with software to help you customize your prints so you get the exact results you want. Easy-WebPrint software enables Windows users to properly print web pages in full color and without losing information off the right edge. For added convenience, Easy-PhotoPrint version 3.3 software delivers professional looking digital photos in 4 x 6 inch, 5 x 7 inch and 8.5 x 11, perfect sizes for framing and sending to family and friends. Together, these Canon applications give you the high-quality results you expect without having to worry about complicated or confusing instructions. With the iP1600 it's always a snap to produce brilliant, edge-to-edge borderless photos.

Compatability and Connectivity
The iP1600 is designed to integrate seamlessly with your current network. With its straightforward USB port, connecting the printer to your computer is quick and easy; the iP1600 is also compatible with both Windows and Macintosh operating systems.

The iP1600 comes with a one-year limited warranty covering parts and labor.

Canon PIXMA iP1600 Photo Printer (White) Reviews

It has very poor color quality, runs through ink quickly and ink cartridges are expensive. It does print text quickly and quietly and is easy to install. Don't let yourself be misled by the low priceyou'll pay more in the long run. I would not buy this product, and I am going to replace it as soon as I can afford a better printer. I have owned this printer for about 18 months; in that time I have spent more on ink than I would have spent buying a more efficient printer.

But as many others note, there's a catch: This is a very expensive printer to operate. The cheapest deal I've found on cartridges is $50 for two B&Ws and one color, and that doesn't seem to last very long. Doing graphics or photos empties a cartridge very fast. A year later it still prints perfectly, even if I don't use it for two weeks. I bought my Pixma ip 1600 after throwing out yet another Epson that dred up and became useless if not babied and used every day. Maybe the next generation will be better. The reviews looked good, the Pixma was cheap, so I bought it.

Reviews are favorable, it's small, pretty quiet, print quality and speed are great and it ridiculously cheap. 2 cartridges cost more than the printer itself. I'm very pleased with the printer and its performance, just not with the cost of ownership. the catch is the cartridges.

Carts for the IP1600 are about $25 for black and $30 for color for Canon brand and $17-20 for third party. I could get recycled carts for my old Epson (I forget the model but it was _very_ popular) for like 8 bucks for black and 10 for color or something like that. They're very expensive and recycled carts are very hard to come by. So this printer is pretty awesome.

In the long run it ends up being NO bargain.

The occasional photo is fine, however. This printer works great. Photo quality is okay, but if you print a lot of photos, I'd look for a higher-end printer than this one.

This is certainly bare bones though. Mine was doing it for over a month before it ran out. I tried doing those syringe replacement jobs that I got from the drug store for the HP but all I ever got were smeared hands, a smeared printer, and low quality printouts. The lack of a paper tray is annoying, and, if you're someone like me who really doesn't use page numbering, you'll have to make sure that the pages are in the right order before you show them to anyone. If you have a replacement cartridge on hand, believe me, you'll see that I'm right.

I guess we must expect to have some minor headaches with a low budget printer, but I have no complaints about the final product. I got this for about fifty bucks a few months ago and have had no problems with it. They definitely last longer which is a big improvement. It definitely produces good, usable copies for a cheap price. Also, the replacement cartridges are cheaper and hold more fluid than do HPs.

Furthermore, it seems to send a "low ink" message to the computer far before it actually needs ink.
