This miniature infrared transmitter operates at ranges of up to 5 m / 16.4 ft., and may be set for either instant shutter release or 2-second delay. The RC-1 may also be used to activate mirror-lock and bulb-shutter functions.

I use this whenever my camera is on a tripod. It works great - photos are tack sharp. I use it with a 5d, and I love how I am now free to look over my camera at my subjects (particularly children) to build rapport, make them laugh, or give them directions, i.e., "chin down", etc...
It requires a line-of-sight to work, so I do have to curl my right hand around my camera to the right of the lens (same side as shutter release) to reach the sensor, but this is not a problem. And you can clip it to your strap so it is always accessible.
Highly recommended.
This is a straight forward little gadget. Just set your camera on the timer setting and press the remote. I keep this on my camera leash and it is very handy.
Nothing to really add to the other great reviews. It's wireless, it's Canon brand, and it works .. 5 stars.
Supplier was prompt, courteous and helpful. The remote would be more useful if you did not have to point at front of camera only. The smallness of the product makes it more difficult to hold and use without dropping.
Works great for our Rebel T1i! As I had read, you do need to be in front of the camera and have line of sight. I love the 2 second delay in order to hide the remote in family shots. Easily clips to camera strap.
