- Processor: The 2.0 GHz Intel Pentium E2180 dual-core processor delivers additional computing resources and help expand the PCâ??s capabilities by providing higher throughput and simultaneous computing. You'll be able to perform multiple tasks such as digital rendering and gaming all while running virus scan or other background tasks seamlessly. And its Intel 64 architecture is also ready for tomorrow's 64-bit applications, and offers enhanced performance through improved virtual memory. Each core shares 1 MB of L2 cache, and they have an 800 MHz front-side bus. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
- Hard Drive: The ginormous 500 GB Serial ATA hard drive (7200 RPM) provides more than enough capacity for storing a large audio and video library, as well as extra space required for video editing. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to Firewire and USB 2.0.
- Memory: The 1 GB of installed RAM (2 x 512 MB, PC2-5300) will satisfy most users, but you still have room to add more RAM to handle today's demanding multimedia and productivity suites. This desktop has a 4 GB maximum RAM capacity (2 x 2 GB). Also, to receive the benefits of the dual-channel DDR2 RAM, any RAM additions require memory modules of same capacity and clockspeed.
- DVD/CD Drive: This multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 8x DVD-R DL Write Once, 8x DVD+R DL Write Once, 16x DVD+R, 8x DVD+RW, 16x DVD-R, 6x DVD-RW, 12x DVD-RAM, 40x CD-R, 32x CD-RW write speeds and 40x CD-ROM, and 16x DVD-ROM read speeds.
This LightScribe DVD±RW drive lets you laser-etch silkscreen quality text and images on to CDs and DVDs . Your software, PC and discs work together for a no-hassle way to burn just the labels you want. After you burn content, just flip the disc over, reinsert and burn your label--anything from a simple title to a full-disc work of art. - Keyboard & Mouse: It comes with a Compaq keyboard and scroller mouse (both with PS/2 connections).
Video & Audio Video is powered by the integrated Nvidia GeForce 7100 graphics/video card, which provides up to 831 MB of total available video memory (128 MB dedicated) as allocated by Windows Vista. It features NVidia's PureVideo technology--which provides great picture clarity, smooth video, accurate color, and precise image scaling for video content--and full support for Microsoft DirectX 9.0 for stunningly realistic cinematic effects for all DirectX-compatible applications. It also has an integrated audio card that can produce high definition surround sound configurable to 8 speakers. Compaq Presario SR5450F Desktop PC (2.0 GHz Intel Pentium Dual Core E2180 Processor, 2 GB RAM, 500 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium) Reviews
I would normally write off the HP/Compaq name after that costly incident, but this was just so cheap (after rebate) that we had to bite. If you know, can you leave a comment on this please. Just ordered more to max out the RAM at 4GB (2x2GB). We use it hooked up to our TV with Windows Media Center. Anyway this was to replace our old HP Pavilion Slimline s3020n that lost internet and USB function just outside of the warranty period.
We want to add a PVR card to record a security camera too, but I'm not sure if that'll work, as it's already capturing live TV and recording. No regrets so far at over two months of continual us. We've been using the default 1GB of RAM and have had some slow application use. I bought this back when it had a $50 rebate and used a coupon at a different merchant. It's great, better than my old TIVO.
We can record shows, burn them to DVD, and it's all just super simple.
it was worth a try and I can tell you I am very happy with it.Vista takes a lttle getting used to but the computer hasn't given me one problem,so much faster then my old one.I upgraded the memory to 2 megs of ram it runs quiet and has been very reliable. I bought this computer to replace a eight year old Gateway that couldn't be updated anymore.I considered a Dell but had one of their laptops fry after just three years.I saw this one at Amazon and figured for the price.
Norton Internet Security and HP software REALLY slow it down. Vista Premium is beautiful, though the memory usage is a bit shocking. But those who want the full Vista experience ought to buy more RAM. I paid $560 for pc, 17-inch lcd monitor,. Background info: This is the first computer I've ever purchased; owned it 5 months. It was an excellent way to adopt Vista without the fuss. Please shop around; as other reviewers mentioned, it's probably cheaper at a brick-and-mortar store. The mouse feels "right" in the hand; keyboard isn't too clicky.
I will try partitioning the HDD to dual-boot Linux (never would have tried this without system restore). I consider myself a casual, novice user. I now use Firefox and OpenOffice.org. Even with Opera, Media Player and my emulator running, cpu usage remains around 6 percent. 2-year extended warranty, AND tax. Overall, I'm very happy with this pc; I'd recommend it to anyone.
The preloaded software chews through 1GB of RAM. I turned off Aero, set display to "classic mode," streamlined the startup menu, uninstalled Norton, and downloaded security software with a smaller footprint. The tower is very quiet and doesn't overheat. The dual-core e2160 processor seems efficient. . I chose this computer because it has lots of storage, features, and a good price.
Wanted a computer (pc or mac) with new OS and suitable for long-term use. Now it boots quickly, runs faster, and *rarely* freezes. But it's not ALL Vista's fault. There's lots of room to experiment with open source software. Ripping DVDs and CDs is a total joy with SO much available space.
LCD, and this only cost me $520 I have this PC and I tell it's great, but why does Amazon sell it with out a monitor. But mine came with a 20 in. I bought mine at walmart, same serial no., same specs and every thing.
This is my first new out of the box pc and I love it. 6150 SE GRAPHICS ) iT COMES WITH A dvd/cd burner and has the light scribe technology which can laser silk screen graphics on to you're discs. The graphics are great ( NVIDIA GeForce. This computor comes with 2Gb of memory ( 2048 Mb ) and a 500 GB. The Windows Home Vista is great and my computor runs smooth and keeps cool.
Great Buy and quality parts, which is hard to come by. Comes equipted with a AMD Athalon x2 5000 doul core processor and this is every bit worth the money. I purchased this computor 1 month before this review was made, and paid around 100 dallors less at Best Buy, than what is advertised on amazon. Every thing is user friendly.
hard drive.
