Creative Zen Stone 1 GB MP3 Player (Blue)

Incredibly tiny, with incredible sound - that's the ZEN Stone. Available in a choice of six glossy colors, its looks match its performance, bringing you room for hundreds of songs and running for up to 10 hours on its rechargeable battery. You can navigate through your folders with the Skip feature and add some surprises to your listening with Shuffle playback. Friendly, simple and pocket-size, the ZEN Stone MP3 player is simply incredible!

The Creative Zen Stone is one of the smallest and most economical MP3 players you'll find anywhere. Compact enough to fit into almost any pocket and weighing less than an ounce, this featherweight player can be worn comfortably around your neck or on your arm while you're traveling or working out. With a capacity of 1 GB, the Stone holds about 250 songs, or 16 hours of music, in MP3 format (or 500 songs in WMA format). In addition, the player's convenient plug-and-play capabilities mean that you can simply connect the player to your PC--the player is only compatible with Windows XP or Vista operating systems--and drag-and-drop your music and data files between player and your computer without the need for special drivers.

The featherweight Zen Stone (0.9 ounces) is one of the tiniest MP3 players on the market.
With smooth curves and a glossy blue finish, this stylish MP3 player is designed to make you look good wherever you go. Ergonomically designed controls, including a conveniently placed quick-play mode switch, let you skip to the next song or folder, or randomly play all the songs in your player with a single touch. Changing play functions is as easy as sliding a toggle switch. The player also supports Audible 2, 3, and 4 formats in addition to MP3 and WMA files. And while the player is compatible with for-purchase WMA DRM files, it does not support portable subscription WMAs.

The player's ergonomically designed controls make it easy to skip songs or access your favorite tracks.
Other details include a multicolor LED screen that notifies the listener of the unit's charging and playback status, support for Creative's Media Lite software (available via download), a rechargeable lithium-ion polymer battery that delivers up to 10 hours of continuous audio playback, and a USB 2.0 interface. The Zen Stone measures 2.1 by 1.4 by 0.5 inches (W x H x D), weighs 0.9 ounces, and is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and a 90-day warranty on labor.

Creative Zen Stone 1 GB MP3 Player (Blue) Reviews

The problem seems to occur when temperatures are below around 45 degrees. But then it started turning off after about 20 minutes of use. I returned it to the store and got another.

I would not recommend it if you plan to use it outside in cold weather. The Zen Stone worked fine for the first two weeks. It could not be restarted immediately.

But the new one did the exact same thing on its first day of use. I think it may have to do with being out in the cold. When it worked for the first two weeks, temperatures were still in the 50's or above.

However after a year the connection to my headphones got really weird. Definitely sad, but overall I really loved it, until now. Like it would only play out of one ear, I tried changing headphones and it seemed to work for a while and then it just went back to only playing one speaker.

THE STONE IS A BAD BUY. The first mp3 player I bought was by Sony and it has worked pretty well, but since I didn't care for the design or the menu, I thought I'd buy a different brand this time around. I laughed at myself for worrying. takes way too long.

When you connect the stone to your computer, it asks if you want to sync the time to your computer time and I said yes. I have to press the middle button, right towards options, down to play mode, and then up and down. So don't buy it. The clock doesn't work. WHAT A MISTAKE. Other reasons not to buy the Stone:.

I started using the Stone right away and everything was going well. Changing the mode it's playing (in one folder, on repeat, shuffle, etc). I couldn't use the recovery tool that I downloaded from Creative either because when I connected the Stone, it wouldn't show up on the computer. The middle button isn't big enough or something. You can't choose individual songs in a folder. (I bought the 2GB plus with speaker). So let's say I want to go from my Carnival Ride folder to my Some Hearts folder. So, there goes fifty bucks.

Well, as soon as I switch over to Some Hearts, Flat On the Floor is cut off because Wasted interrupts it and starts playing. THE VERY NEXT DAY, my FULLY CHARGED Stone WOULD NOT TURN ON. So I spent a lot of time reading reviews and despite the number of people that said theirs randomly stopped working, I still ending up ordering a Stone because of the price. O_o Before my Stone died, I had synced it twice and both times this happened. The Stone really appealed because of its price, looks, and features.

I think I've made my point. When you reach the end of a list, it doesn't go back up to the first one. Like an hour later, I checked the clock on the Stone and it reset. MY STONE WAS DEAD WITHIN TWO DAYS OF USE. It is ridiculously hard to turn on and off and you have to press for way too long.

Whenever I try to turn it off, I end up turning up the volume super loud instead. You can't browse music and listen to music at the same time.

It wouldn't even read my player. You know, I'm one of those people that just really DON'T like change. I'm sooo very serious. He did. But, these Zen's were just too cute. I tried to play it 1 more time.

I pretty much still live in the 1970's - platform shoes, bell-bottoms, 8-tracks, records, reel-to-reels, and, yes even still cassettes. Still nothing. Last time I ever try to {upgrade} anything. I'm happy. I found my husband's old classic Sony basic tape player, bought some cheap/generic Doller Tree blank cassettes, got out my LP's and 45's - had a blast recording them.

I enjoyed it for a while.a very BRIEF while. About 5 months was about how long it lasted. It would have a tendency to come on all by itself, and of course I would realize until too late, so sometimes when I wanted to listen to it, I couldn't, because the battery was low. So, I plugged it into the computer, to maybe see what might be wrong w/it. Well, late last year, my husband had gotten me 1 of these {black} Zen Stones (1GB) for my birthday, mainly because I begged him for one. The green light showed on, but it wouldn't play my songs.

Let's see, it wouldn't charge all that good on a wall-charger - and, held even {LESS} battery life than charging it on the computer. I always said I'd NEVER either want, or own one. First, jumping songs w/out me even doing anything. After months of very frustrating, and futile aggrevation, I just tossed it in the garbage. Last straw - one day taking it off the wall charger, it just stopped working. Somehow, one time when I plugged it into the computer to change some songs around, 200 MB's were {forever} gone - went from a 1 GB, down to 800 MB - and, I don't understand what'd happened.

About 2nd month into having it, well that's where the problems started surfacing.

I am replacing it this week with another brand. At first I blamed it on Vista but have tried my other computer with XP and still no connection. I cannot even charge the Stone from a wall charger. After about 2 months the Stone started to "lose" my place so I spent the first few minutes of my walk finding it again. The next thing was the Stone stopped being recognized by my computer. I was using the Stone for listening to audio books as I exercised. I solved the problem by having only one book on the Stone at a time.
