I returned it to the store and got another. When it worked for the first two weeks, temperatures were still in the 50's or above. I would not recommend it if you plan to use it outside in cold weather. But then it started turning off after about 20 minutes of use.
It could not be restarted immediately. The Zen Stone worked fine for the first two weeks. But the new one did the exact same thing on its first day of use. I think it may have to do with being out in the cold.
The problem seems to occur when temperatures are below around 45 degrees.
Like it would only play out of one ear, I tried changing headphones and it seemed to work for a while and then it just went back to only playing one speaker. However after a year the connection to my headphones got really weird. Definitely sad, but overall I really loved it, until now.
Changing the mode it's playing (in one folder, on repeat, shuffle, etc). I laughed at myself for worrying. MY STONE WAS DEAD WITHIN TWO DAYS OF USE. WHAT A MISTAKE. Well, as soon as I switch over to Some Hearts, Flat On the Floor is cut off because Wasted interrupts it and starts playing. You can't browse music and listen to music at the same time. I couldn't use the recovery tool that I downloaded from Creative either because when I connected the Stone, it wouldn't show up on the computer.
THE STONE IS A BAD BUY. The clock doesn't work. Like an hour later, I checked the clock on the Stone and it reset. The first mp3 player I bought was by Sony and it has worked pretty well, but since I didn't care for the design or the menu, I thought I'd buy a different brand this time around.
(I bought the 2GB plus with speaker). I started using the Stone right away and everything was going well. O_o Before my Stone died, I had synced it twice and both times this happened. I think I've made my point. THE VERY NEXT DAY, my FULLY CHARGED Stone WOULD NOT TURN ON. When you connect the stone to your computer, it asks if you want to sync the time to your computer time and I said yes. It is ridiculously hard to turn on and off and you have to press for way too long. I have to press the middle button, right towards options, down to play mode, and then up and down.
So let's say I want to go from my Carnival Ride folder to my Some Hearts folder. You can't choose individual songs in a folder. takes way too long. When you reach the end of a list, it doesn't go back up to the first one. So, there goes fifty bucks. So don't buy it. The middle button isn't big enough or something.
So I spent a lot of time reading reviews and despite the number of people that said theirs randomly stopped working, I still ending up ordering a Stone because of the price. The Stone really appealed because of its price, looks, and features. Whenever I try to turn it off, I end up turning up the volume super loud instead. Other reasons not to buy the Stone:.
It would have a tendency to come on all by itself, and of course I would realize until too late, so sometimes when I wanted to listen to it, I couldn't, because the battery was low. Let's see, it wouldn't charge all that good on a wall-charger - and, held even {LESS} battery life than charging it on the computer. It wouldn't even read my player. I enjoyed it for a while.a very BRIEF while. Last time I ever try to {upgrade} anything. About 2nd month into having it, well that's where the problems started surfacing. So, I plugged it into the computer, to maybe see what might be wrong w/it. I found my husband's old classic Sony basic tape player, bought some cheap/generic Doller Tree blank cassettes, got out my LP's and 45's - had a blast recording them.
Somehow, one time when I plugged it into the computer to change some songs around, 200 MB's were {forever} gone - went from a 1 GB, down to 800 MB - and, I don't understand what'd happened. But, these Zen's were just too cute. Last straw - one day taking it off the wall charger, it just stopped working. I'm sooo very serious. He did. Well, late last year, my husband had gotten me 1 of these {black} Zen Stones (1GB) for my birthday, mainly because I begged him for one.
About 5 months was about how long it lasted. I pretty much still live in the 1970's - platform shoes, bell-bottoms, 8-tracks, records, reel-to-reels, and, yes even still cassettes. The green light showed on, but it wouldn't play my songs. I always said I'd NEVER either want, or own one. You know, I'm one of those people that just really DON'T like change.
I'm happy. I tried to play it 1 more time. Still nothing. After months of very frustrating, and futile aggrevation, I just tossed it in the garbage. First, jumping songs w/out me even doing anything.
I cannot even charge the Stone from a wall charger. I solved the problem by having only one book on the Stone at a time. At first I blamed it on Vista but have tried my other computer with XP and still no connection. I am replacing it this week with another brand. I was using the Stone for listening to audio books as I exercised. The next thing was the Stone stopped being recognized by my computer. After about 2 months the Stone started to "lose" my place so I spent the first few minutes of my walk finding it again.
