The slim form factor makes the product look nice, but at the cost of making it less upgradable (i.e.
full size graphics cards won't work).
The only downside for me (I own a slightly upgraded version than the one shown here - better processor, graphics card, hard drive, Vista Home Premium) is that the included audio card is below par.
This is a great looking box with good performance for basic home computing.
I went with the Dell because it was quieter, was cheaper for a similar configuration and since I needed to place it on the floor, this just looked better :) Also, the build quality is surprisingly good.
However, it was easy to fix it with an external USB sound card for around $20.
The fan and hard drive are very quiet, which makes it great for a home computer.
I considered this along with the HP slimline.
The vostro does not come with a ton of junk software (unlike my Sony Vaio).
I bought this to replace my computer that crashed right after Christma and I was surviving on my laptop. I prefer Windows XP but since this only came with Windows Vista I am getting used to the new software, but overall I would say this is the computer to have if you run a home based business and the Dell tech support system is fantastic. You cannot go wrong with all you get for $499.99. It arrived 2 days after I placed the order with Dell and I have to tell you that is mighty fast service. I absolutely love it - it takes up so little desk space that you hardly know it is there and the processor is so fast it feels like I have come out of the stone age.
