Directed Electronics SLV2 Sirius Stiletto 2 Vehicle Kit Reviews
The large programmable channel buttons are easy to select without looking at them while driving. The car kit for the Stilletto 2 works very well. After you get your favorites programmed, it is unlikely that you'll use more than a few buttons on the remote, if you use it at all. I do think the remote could be improved with fewer buttons.
The other option is to connect it to a radio that has an external input. This makes the Stiletto2 very easy to use in the car. There are none in my area so I can't use the FM transmitter. Before ordering check to make sure that there is a blank FM station in your area. A lot of the new ones do. It just plugs in and you're ready to listen. Luckily I'm using it in a car that still has a cassette player so I bought an adapter for that.
Like any device that depends on reception, it will never work in all areas. satellite radio has reception limitations but if you want great content, you take it where you can get it. I find it's also great in a car (buy the car kit). I only do the WIFI and car and it's been great. It's really a slick design and when you add a multi-gig chip there is tons of storage. Let's not forget the King of All Media, commercial free music. If you want to walk around in a non-WIFI area you need good line-of-sight to where the satellite is (need the special headphones/antenna). With the Stilletto2, the best way to use it is in the presence of WIFI (any headphones can be used and it taps in to the WIFI in seconds).
I've had it for over a month and it works very well. If you live in a city, a direct connection will be needed IMHO. The FM modulator sound quality is great, but the signal output seems pretty weak. The Stiletto is tolerating connecting and disconnecting from the vehicle kit well- no signs of wear. Much weaker than the earlier Sirius units. Love it.You need this vehicle kit.
It attaches very easily to my vent and blends well onto my dash. The remote is easy to memorize as well which again makes it easy to use (a standard easy scroll up/down channel button is the only thing that is missing. If you are in a major city with a lot of radio traffic you will still have difficulties and will probably want to pick up the FM modulator kit as well.
At first I was worried about the button set up but have to admit that it is far superior from my original series radios design and easy to use while driving. If you are using a new Stiletto in your care then this is an essential accessory. I am a bit snobby about the interior of my car and it looks clean and nice.
As now this takes two buttons - up/down and enter). The antenna extender is extremely long and really is essential since the FM transmitters have been neutered by FCC regulations. In the end it is worth it.
