When I initially saw this product on Amazon, I was thrilled. When I received this so called Emergency Battery Extender, I immediately tried it out. When initially plugged in to my Zen, the battery (recharge) indicater appears as if the battery is really charging but then the battery indicator disappears. I was going to return it, BUT decided it wasn't worth the shipping and handling.BE WARNED. I thought this would be an alternative to purchasing the extra battery.
I wanted it for use with my 60gb Zen Vision W. The only thing that will get charged up is YOU. What a disappointment. The manufacturer ought to be ashamed. In a nutshell, this product doesn't do what it claims to do.
This is a great product for extra viewing time for your Zoom Vision W 30GB or 60GB, when your battery's running low,and you can't plug up anywhere to recharge. It requires 4 AA batteries and allows at least 2-3 hours of extended play time. Better yet, the interchangeable Gomadic tips allow you to purchase separate tips for your cellphone, blue tooth headset, or other devices that need charging when you simply don't have the luxury to plug in. We this Gomadic charger, you're saved from having to end your viewing mid-flight or mid-road trip simply because you're battery's dying.
To address the obvious:. BTW - it does the exact same thing for a Dell Axim 50v. When this charger / tip setup is plugged into the Zen, the battery light changes to indicate the unit is plugged in and the battery icon will remain at 100% until the Zen battery dies and at that point you will be out of juice. Yes the Gomadic had fresh batteries. It appears to charge but doesn't do anything. On the surface this appears to be a great product.
The reality is that it doesn't work. This item does not do anything except make it appear as though your Zen is being charged but it doesn't actually charge it nor does it enable you to use your Zen when the internal battery is low or discharged. Yes it was plugged in correctly. Yes the Gomadic was turned on.
Very good construction. A+++ Anyways, its a great product and the only thing of its kind and I really like it. Its a AA battery pack. I don't know what else to say except the product is what you want and pay for. I haven't tested the length of the batteries but I'm sure if you buy *Emergency* AA Battery Extender, you only mean to use it for an emergency, say a long trip.
