Epson Stylus Photo R380 Inkjet Printer Reviews

Each spongless cartridge holds about 5 times the ink that is in an Epson cartridge and costs Penney's to fill. Great little printer and I would buy another. I did not re-profile because I am not printing to resell and do not really care if the colors are a bit off. This system will cost you approx. I slightly wet a rag with MEK [ Methyl Ethyl Keytone ] available from Home Depot and wiped the bottom of the tray to create a fresh surface for the rollers to work against and now everything is perfect again. This problem is easily solved by using 3rd party inks and spongless refillable self resetting cartridges or even external ink tanks. It is really not the amount of ink it uses but the minuscule amount of ink that Epson loads in the cartridges. First the ink usage is absolutely the worst I have ever seen.

$50 but will save you that much in your first refill. I almost threw out the printer but then noticed slight wear marks on the bottom of the CD tray and it was very smooth. Second issue which removed a star from my vote is that after printing a couple hundred CDs I started getting a paper jam error and had to restart the printer wasting more ink and time. That said there is now a caveat to this -The colors will not be as good as the Epson ink. This issue is 85% solved by profiling the new inks and this is time consuming but only needs to be done one time.

It was a sad gift to give because it sat there for two weeks. Called Epson and they sent new ink cartridges, a week and half later all was OK. It gave an error "ink not recognized". Once it got working she loves it. I bought this printer for a friend as a gift, when we took it out of the box to try it out, it did not work.

I haven't had an ounce of trouble with it. Even more, I've printed over 100 pages (many with color) and 20 full-color CDs/DVDs, and the only cartridge I've had to replace so far is the black one. And these are the low-capacity cartridges that come with the printer. This printer is perfect. I can't wait to get the high-capacity cartridgesthey'll probably last me for months. The other colors are holding up well. It quickly prints clean, professional-looking color photos and CDs as well as standard black print documents.

I get an "ink cartridge not recognized" error. Epson tells me that fixing it might cost more than a new unit. This was my wife's Christmas gift for me a year ago. Sigh.

Two weeks after the warranty expired the printer stopped functioning properly. This is my fourth Epson printer and the other three lasted at least 1000 pages each. Perhaps this one has printed 150. Even when it worked the prints weren't that inspiring.

Yep, you guessed it. Unfortunately I bought several genuine, Epson ink cartridges to find out the problem was with the printer. So I'm left with the decision: fix it and salvage the $85 worth of ink laying about or just chuck everything and get something better.

Then what happens is you get some light areas on a print and that forces you to clean the nozzles. I really can not believe how much ink this printer uses. It broke after a year. Unfortunately the cleaning blows out the ink and then it just refuses to clean or work. When I first got it I was excited to run it through it's paces and see how fantastic the prints were.

Every time it cleans itself it uses ink. I will admit that they looked good. They just keep getting lower, and then it will refuse to clean the nozzles. I think they did redesign the feeder because it looks like this one works different/better. I figure it would cost about 90 dollars to print 50 to 60 4 x6 photos. You know you could have printed for another month with some of the color ones on low, but the printer will not let you do that. That took two black cartridges and 5 color ones. One of the big problems with this is the way the system works.

I made about 20 prints at 4 x6 and printed out maybe 100 pages of black and white text. It will demand to be cleaned and the cartridges are too low for a cleaning. I bought this to print black text on dvd's. I would think that it is total over kill for this but I was using a r260 before. But the problem is, who on earth could afford to spend the money it takes to make these prints.

This means that if you use the cartridges down below a quarter tank they will rapidly just keep depleting. These are the same photos that wal mart prints out for around 10 cents each. Also maybe 100 black text dvd's, with just a minimal title. First you can not print with any cartridge empty.

They are color and you think "Ok, I will wait for my tax refund to replace them, and only print out black stuff". At that point you have to buy the cartridges, even when the software shows the cartridges still have ink in them. If you buy this, plan on having a couple of sets of cartridges on hand at all times. Wrong. Every time it starts is uses ink. You will never make it. Three extra sets will only set you back about 280 bucks.

I also bought the two year extended warranty. I went with this figuring that Epson made the dvd/cd feed feature better and learned from their first design. Now to the ink usage. Second the printer uses ink out of all the cartridges all the time. But remember the printer was a steal at $100. So picture that you have three cartridges that you let get low.
