GE 27958GE1 2.4 GHz Analog Cordless Speakerphone with Answering System and Caller ID (White) Reviews
I purchased this phone over 4 years ago. Never a problem, and I have never had to change the battery in the cordless. But, I take care of my "stuff", and follow instructions. I'm an electrical engineer and I know that this phone will perform with the proper installation, care and maintenance.
The cordless also makes a buzzing noise when it is fully charged-but, all things considered (mainly the price of suitable alternatives), I would purchase another. As I read in other reviews, the speaker has a lot to be desired. I use the corded phone memories to store my business contacts & the walk-around, personal ones.
I have a separate answer machine that has 40 minutes record time and is much better. It is my suggestion that buyers consider other phone systems only because so many people have had problems with this one. In my case the unit has been good. I did replace the battery because I wanted a longer stanby time. The problem having the regular phone on the wall is the handset tends to drop if you are not overly careful hanging up. Why take a chance with this one. It has hit the floor a number of times and is a poor design.
This phone and answer machine have been hanging on the wall in my house over 3 years. The portable phone can now be off the charger for over a week before the battery needs charging. The portable phone has an annoying click sound when using it and the answer machine only records 14 minutes. I have not had most of those problems. It does still work after being dropped. I have had no problem with either the portable phone or the answer machine. There are better choices.
Overall, the phone is functional, but there must be better options out there. The cordless handset is difficult to keep a charge, even after draining and recharging to full several times and trying replacing the battery. Volume on the main unit is very low at maximum setting when trying to listen to messages, yet the beep on every button press is overpowering. BTW, there IS a red flashing light that tells you when you have a voice message, and I tested and determined that voice messages are still kept after a brief power outage. So if you don't pick up a phone after 2 rings, you'll be talking over the outgoing message and your conversation will be recorded. You can't change the number of rings the answering machine picks up after, which is permanently set to only 3. Corded with cordless is a good concept.
I'm ready to toss this unit in the garbage. Also, the volume on the answering machine is horrible, even when at it's maximum setting. The speaker on the handset earpiece is very hard to hear and gets a lot of feedback (). The only way we can hear the person on the other end of the line is to put our finger over the mic when we're not talking, which is very inconvenient. We've had this phone for a year and a half or so, and can't wait to replace it. Cordless phone seems to work ok, but the corded handset on the base unit is worthless. from the mic.
