Perhaps they've improved the keypad failure rates on current design, as I have not had that problem in over a year. The microphone is very sensitive and picks up all other sounds in the room. If you're expecting crystal clear sound quality you will likely have to spend more for a higher quality phone. Still a good value if this phone meets your needs. There's often some static when going more than twenty feet from the base station. Suggested improvements would be a more directional microphone and better shielding for RF noise interference to reduce static.
I've had two where after using for over a year, the keypads failed. When the battery goes, I buy another phone set and get both a new phone and a new battery. That's the trade-off between price and quality. I've found this GE model to be a good value for a basic cordless phone. The sound quality is fair to good, and not excellent.
Mike Changing channels did not reduce the static. If you want an inexpensive phone with fair to good sound quality, this model may do it for you. Don't expect crystal clear sound quality for this inexpensive cordless phone. I then keep the older phone as a backup. The phone's sound quality is not the best.
The cost of the phone boxed with battery and base station is not much more than the cost of a replacement battery. That's the trade off in price. Upon turning up the speaker volume, feedback is often present. I would not purchase for heavy use as a business phone due to the static, and for important calls I still use an older AT&T handset wired to the wall, as that sound quality is crystal clear with no static or distortion. However the sound quality is adequate for my occasional use. I have had several of the GE Model 27831 and 27923 Cordless Phones.
They are inexpensive.
This phone had all the features I was looking for but had a alot of static in the line. I've purchased another phone (Radio Shack) and it works perfectly. I tested other Jacks and cords in the house and it still had noise.
I have owned several of these phones in the past. I was so happy with the performance of the first phone that I continued to purchase them. Though the price has remained reasonable, the quality has taken a nosedive. Though I have replaced the battery several times, the batteries themselves are very weak. I'll never give a second glance at one of these worthless phones again. The battery life is the main problem. In the long run, they haven't been worth the hassle of continually replacing phones and batteries. The first worked perfectly for several years.
I looked and looked for a phone to replace my one that I had for 10 years.and after reading the reviews I thought I would try this one.and it's great.I had so many problems with other phones that I tried not being able to hear the other person.this one is loud and clear.
At the price, a good value. This is just what I was looking for.a basic, sturdy-looking cordless.
