Hoyle Casino 2009 Reviews
Hey. I am not at all impressed with the graphics of the new version of this product. In fact, I uninstalled it from my computer and have it back in the box. Seriously, I would not buy it again. Maybe I should give it as a Christmas gift to someone I don't like.
I was hoping this had been corrected, but no such luck. Then there were a slew of bugs in the shipped version, so you have to download a MASSIVE patch from the web site. It finished sometime in the middle of the night. This is going straight to a landfill. The old game always got stuck in rampant and runaway "raises" with no basis in reality. I wouldn't even donate this game to Goodwill.
It's still just as bad as it was in 2004. Please don't waste your money on this game. Support site says it can take over 30 minutes on Vista. I'm not sure what "bugs" it fixed as the card are still tiny and unreadable. This game requires massive computer resources to run and is STILL choppy and painfully slow.
Finally, the only reason I bought the newer version was in the hope that the gaming logic had improved - specifically in tournaments. I think Hoyle spent all its efforts on the massive and unnecessary graphics. On an XP system it takes almost 15 minutes for the DVD (yes - DVD, not CD-ROM) just to initially load and show anything on the screen for installation. After several hours on my high-speed internet connection, I went to bed. The 2004 version is much better.
2009 changes the graphics finally, though I don't think they are better, just different. Numerous things in the 2009 version are different, but not always better. If you played it before, save your money because you may not like these improvements. While the graphics remained the same, the game still got better mainly from artificial intelligence. That is not to say the game is like a person, there are definitely quirks. I would wait until the next version when they work out the bugs.
I know when I installed the game, it took about an hour to download the updates (I have a very fast internet connection) because the hoyle site is very slow. The poker tables are harder to follow because the cards and players are on top of each other. Overall, if you want a good casino game Hoyle is the best.
I have bought Hoyle Casino for several years. Everything feels smaller. While not restored, this year you can choose different values easier.
I have not done much with the online, so no opinion. Another annoying part of casino comes with not being able to go "all-in" in poker. Last year, the option was deleted.
I uninstalled it and tossed it into the garbage. Also on the poker games, I couldn't even see what cards I had. I had an older version of this game, and like it much better. You can't raise on BlackJack as high as I would like to, as in the past. Good thing it wasn't too expensive.
Also there is no drink service. If you have the 2004 version of this, keep it. In the middle of playing this game when I changed venues it renamed my character to Alex, deducted $2500 from my bank account and took away my ability to speak, why. No new characters, less playing options and choppy graphics. Save your money, I uninstalled it and am playing the 2004 version again which is excellent.
