It's powered by the VIA C7-M ULV processor, which provides a 1.2 GHz clock speed and excellent power management capabilities. Other features include a 120 GB hard disk drive, 1 GB of installed RAM (2 GB maximum), tri-mode Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11a/b/g), lightning quick Gigabit Ethernet, VGA webcam built into the screen's bezel for video chats, and up to 2.25 hours of battery life. This model comes pre-installed with the Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic operating system.

The Basics

  • Processor: The VIA C7-M ULV (ultra-low voltage) processor has a 1.2 GHz speed, 800 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and a 128 KB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)

Operating at an average power of less than 1W, the VIA C7-M ULV processor is the embodiment of cool processing and sets the standard for next generation low power mobile and personal electronics systems. It also features VIA PowerSaver technology that further reduces power consumption by dynamically adjusting the frequency and the voltage of the VIA C7-M ULV processor as the system requires. This innovative technology can reduce power consumption by as much as 50 percent while still ensuring seamless mobile operation.

  • Hard Drive: The 120 GB hard drive (5400 RPM) offers enough to room to hold a digital audio library of over 20,000 songs and still have room left over for movies, games, and a large collection of software. This Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to Firewire and USB 2.0. It also includes HP's 3D DriveGuard, which sends a signal to shut down the hard drive upon sudden movement or shock by using a three-axis digital accelerometer chip.

  • Memory: The 1 GB of installed RAM (1 x 1024 MB, PC2-5300) offers a top-of-class 667 MHz speed. This notebook has a maximum capacity of 2 GB of RAM.

  • DVD/CD Drive: The HP 2133 Mini-Note PC does not include an integrated optical drive, but HP offers optional drives that connect to the Mini-Note using the optional HP External MultiBay II.

  • Keyboard & Mouse: The spill-resistant keyboard is 92 percent of full size, 101/102-key compatible with isolated inverted-T cursor control keys, both left and right control and alt keys, 12 function keys, and hotkey combinations for audio volume, power conservation, brightness, and other features. It also features HP DuraKeys, which have a clear coating applied over the keyboard to protects the finish and printed letters and characters. The touchpad includes a scroll zone and two soft-touch buttons.
Screen, Video & Audio
The 8.9-inch display has a 1280 x 768-pixel resolution, for native 720p high-resolution clarity, and the Mini-Note includes a VGA output for connecting to an external monitor or projector. Video is powered by the integrated Via Chrome 9 video/graphics card, and it includes an integrated high-definition audio card for crisp sound via the internal 2-watt stereo speakers.

Networking, Connectivity & Expansion
This notebook has an integrated tri-mode Intel 3945ABG wireless LAN (802.11a/b/g), with throughput up to 54 Mbps at 5 GHz (802.11a) and 2.4 GHz (802.11g). It's compatible with 802.11b/g networks (commonly found in home routers and Wi-Fi hotspots) as well as 802.11a networks (which has a higher throughput, but more limited range--great for closed office environments). You also get super-fast wired connectivity via the Gigabit Ethernet port (10/100/1000).

The Mini-Note also includes a next-generation ExpressCard 54/34 card slot (replacing the PCMCIA slot), which lets you take advantage of thinner, faster, and lighter expansion cards for even more advanced wireless, networking, storage, and security features. And it offers a Secure Digital memory card slot for downloading pictures and videos from your digital camera, or filling up a card for your MP3 player. It includes the following ports:

  • 2 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
  • 1 ExpressCard/54 slot (also supports ExpressCard/34)
  • 1 Secure Digital memory card slot
  • 1 headphone/line-out and 1 microphone

HP 2133-KX868AT 8.9-inch Mini-Note PC (C7-M 1.2 GHz Processor, 1024 MB RAM, 120 GB Hard Drive, Vista Home) Reviews

The sound quality is very good, if only speakers were located somewhere else this would add a couple more inches to the screen, which I'm yet not very comfortable with. As usual, Windows Vista must be downgraded to XP for optimal performance. Bought for portability, as an independent consultant carrying around my 15.4" Sony notebook has been killing my back. Hard drive and UBS ports (for pendrives) have compensated the lack of CD/DVD drive when it comes to screening movies for my 3 year old son on long road trips. The HP 2133 is light-weighted just fits in my purse, yet the keyboard has a very comfortable size.

Of course, if you do not want to go into the technicalities of Linux, I suggest you stick to a Windows XP setup. This is one solid laptop. After the initial adjustment and wifi setup, mine is working so great. But for $299, I got myself a very good bargain. For $299, this HP mini notebook is a steal. I have compared it to the make of EEE and Acer. Oh yes, and it does get warm, as most of the buyers say.

This netbook can't event handle video playback very well. Save your money and get the Acer Aspire One 6 cell or the Samsung nc10 6 cell.you've been warned. No wonder Amazon lowered the price and it's running on Linux because this netbook came out way before the intel Atom's processor was born.

I purchased this product for purposes of reviewing the product from a forensic perspective. the wireless on the machine did not work, obviously HP thought that they would have no failures because their staff is incapabable of troubleshooting the product over the phone. Interesting, thing happened on the way to doing a standard setup. they barely recognize it is their product. If are not experienced with hardware and software I do not recommend this product.

Other than these few minor annoyances the last thing is that the video playback capability is low. They reccomend switching over to a Lynx system which doesn't eat up as much memory but for base functions of windows, this works just fine. Of course when you turn it up, the battery power on the computer does not last as long. Not to mention that it looks awesome as well. For a college student, not the most adequate way to spend $100.00.

The pluses of this pc are this. The other draw back is that the screen has a high gloss finish to it which sometimes can be difficult on the eyes only because you can see your reflection when you want to focus on it. My commute went from 15 min. Many of the reviewers of this product say that the operating system of Windows that comes preinstalled slows down the functionality of the computer. It went with me to Amsterdam and everywhere inbetween. All and all, this is a great lightweight notebook which I have not taken off my side since I bought it.

Obviously if you have two videos playing at once they are choppy. But getting this to watch a lot of movies is not really what this was meant for. to 2hrs. After looking at a lot of PC reviews of different notebooks, the HP 2133 seemed an affordable, durable, stylish option for just what I was looking for. If you need something to make good use of commute time or just working on a paper or novel, this is what you need. So I immediately started looking at notebook technology. The other thing that is somewhat annoying is that the computer starts with the lowest light setting every time you turn it on. Don't get me wrong, you can still pull about a good two hours of work out of this thing before you have to recharge, which makes it perfect for taking notes, a train ride, a bus ride, or even meetings.

I needed to work on my thesis paper and was going to waste too much time sitting on buses. The minuses are that obviously with a notebook where the memory drive is comparable to that of an iPod, too many open windows and the computer will freeze up. Not to mention that the switch over is an initial cost of $100.00 plus to get done. Base functions of writing, portability, internet connection through wifi, and built in web cam make this computer a completely worth while purchase. This is worth the investment and will pay for itself with in a month of having it if not sooner. So I purchased one of the HP 2133 about a month ago when my car broke down and I was forced to be riding public transportation.
