HP LaserJet 1022 Printer (Q5912A#ABA) Reviews
The good:.
- small footprint.
- mac compatible.
- good resolution.
- small manual feed capacity.
Overall, i would definitely purchase this product again.
The bad:.
- loud.
- fast printing.
It's especially quick at putting out the first sheet, and keeps spitting them out at a good pace. I bought the HP LaserJet 1022 Printer to replace my aging HP 4M, and I have not been disappointed. I highly recommend it for all Mac users who are looking for a printer for light duty and to save that expensive color ink jet when black ink will suffice.
I was concerned about peak power draw. I've used a number of different laser printers over the last 30 years, and this one had me saying "wow" for the first week. * cost per page. Shopping for a new printer was a bit involved, but my criteria was. * convenience as a network printer. Recently one of my inkjet printers asked me for $60 in ink, and I decided it was time for it to find a new home. Be sure and do your own research, and pay no attention to these people.
The type is crisp and readable, even when I print 4 pages to a side. As an aside, when I went looking in local brick-and-mortar stores to see what they had, I was thoroughly disappointed in the sales people.
My previous laser printer would dim the lights when it started to print, the HP1022 does not. They would tell me anything to try and sell me whatever they had in stock.
The HP1022 was an excellent choice. * power usage.
* speed. Another consideration is that the 1022 has PCL firmware built in, so it could be connected to a non-Windows server.
When I hit print in an application the first page starts printing in about 1 second.
All see the printer as offline or not connected. I'm waiting on a new print server and hopefully will have it up and running shortly on a wireless connection. It will NOT work with any of them, despite hours on the phone and hours researching. However, in the meantime, printing USB couldn't be any better. I refuse to dump any more money into this and am very disappointed with HP. I have always been a big cheerleader for them, but this has truly put me off of them for quite awhile. Linksys, DLink, and NetGear. So far I'm loving this printer.
HP of course recommends an expensive JetDirect. **Well, I'm on the third print server now. It is very quick and seems great quality. I've always like the HP brand anyway, and this little printer doesn't disappoint.
The 1022 replaced a HP printer that cost me $1000 a decade ago. Although the print driver supplied by HP didn't work properly on my Intel iMac running OS X 10.4.11, it worked great with a generic HP Gimp driver. No complaints. Otherwise, small and very fast. Worked fine with the supplied HP driver in my G4 Powerbook.
