HP Officejet 6500 Wireless All-in-One Inkjet Printer Reviews

I love this printer! I spent 4-6 weeks shopping around and this specific printer was it! I didn't want a preppy photo printer that mom's typically use. You know, the ones with 2 buttons, and come with the glossy special paper. I wanted an all inclusive office printer that could do everything, something that would be good for a small business. This is it!

Some of the features I needed: wireless, good paper capacity, color, cheap ink, scanner, and the multiple page scanner at the top.

When I got the printer, I was surprised by the easy set up. I thought I needed help from a network genius to have it set up for our wireless network. It turns out that my basic computer knowledge was just enough. All I did was plug it in, and install the disk. The wireless configuration all happened on it's own. Amazing how two electronics can communicate with each other when they are in separate rooms.

Con: When I turn off the printer (don't do) you have to re-establish the network. It was really frustrating to press 1 button and ruin the whole thing for 2 days. I now know how to re-establish the network, and I always keep the printer on.

Next was the price. I looked at all the features I needed and went to tiger direct, HP, and newegg to find the right features for the right price. The result was this office jet 6500. The printer is normally priced at $200. Tiger direct will give it to you for $150. When I called all the places in town for a quote, they told me $200. Tiger Direct ALMOST won my business until I went to Amazon.com, and found it for $132 with free shipping. Amazing deal!!! Big savings!! Should be illegal!! Probably is!!!

Con: My only problem with the printer has to do with it's speed. At my work, the printer (a full sized one) sucks in the papers super fast. A stack of 50 pages will be sucked through in less than a minute. I was kinda expecting something similar...but my expectations fell quite short. The printer takes a couple seconds to prepare itself...then it slowly feeds in the paper and carefully scans each detail (scans in color BTW). The printer thinks for a couple more seconds...and a page slowly prints out with precision. It is slow as heck compared to the full sized printer at work = But, everything else is an A+! You probably can't find a small printer that sucks in papers at amazing speeds. Maybe I'm living in a dream world to have expected this.

If you are a small business starting up, this is the PERFECT printer for you.

Ok, so I bought this printer on the advise of someone who knows that I print a TON. I didn't necessarily need photo quality printing, rather a workhorse machine that had a good value of prints/ink cartridge (get XL inks).

I'll agree that it is no Bosch diswasher in terms of quiet operation, but a little bit of printer noise doesn't bug me.

I purchased the model that was not wireless, but wired it with an Eternet cord into my wireless router and presto - wireless printing!

I had my own system issues when loading the installation software with my anti-virus and firewall settings. So after HOURS of getting irritated and contacting diffrent support here is my advice.
1. When installing the printer, turn off your firewall and anti-virus. Just remember to turn it back on once installation is complete. This should save you a big headache.
2. If you do run into issues, CALL (do not do online chat support) HP! I have my printer installed thanks phone support, the online support chat said they would just email me some info in the next 48 hours! Say What?!?!?!

Seeing as those issues were my own, and not the printer, I am super happy so far with this printer.

Great printer until I got an error indicating an "ink system error". Followed all of the directions on the HP website to troubleshoot. No success. Tried same recommendations a few more times a few days later. Still no success. Got online with HP Help Chat. After an hour online, the representative tells me my printer has a PEN error and is not fixable. And, I'm told, I'll get a free replacement from HP. And oh, would I like an extended warrantee? After all, the new printer will assume the old printer's warrantee and it will expire in a few months. No thanks. But then -- the HP Chat person tells me she can't authorize the return. I'll have to speak with someone in person. After over an hour! Busy as I am, finding time to sit on a phone line wasn't easy. But eventually I did. And after another HOUR AND A HALF I finally have someone who can authorize the return. Even got an email confirming all the details. Printer was to arrive in 5-10 business days. Well.... you guessed it. After 14 business days, there's nothing. I check the status of the return. Nothing has shipped. Send an email to their customer support team inquiring about the status. And "due to an internal error", they have no idea when my printer will ship. If ever.

Naaah folks. Save your $. Skip the HP experience. Trust me when I tell you I could have bought three new printers for the time I've spent fooling around on this one.

I bought an entire new computer system, including this printer. I like that it is wireless, makes copies, scans, and prints double sided.

After two weeks of use it somehow just disappeared from my computer as a printer option. I had to call the Geek Squad and have them walk me through re-installing it ... the CD setup that comes with it was for Windows Vista or XP only. I have Windows 7.

After several months of perfect use, it disappeared again but this time I called HP where they gave amazing customer service. The person was on the phone with me for over 45 minutes and walked me through everything I needed to do until she was able to take remote access. She upgraded the software for Windows 7 and 'fixed' the issue.

The printer itself is great ... I love that it will print double sided without having to manually flip the paper (though you can do it this way still). It does take forever to print double sided though - since the ink has to dry before it prints the second side. But it's an awesome feature.

I've used the copy feature several times and it is quick and simple. I haven't had the opportunity to use the scanner portion yet.

Overall I really like this printer and would definitely buy it again if I needed an other printer.

I bought this printer at Best Buy for only 100.00 on sale. To get a wireless printer for 100.00 is incredible. I had wanted one for so long but they were still so high in price. Its a wired wireless if that makes sense. The printer must be connected to your router by a cat 5 cable at all times and there is a setup that you have to go through with your computer using a USB wire directly connected to the printer but then after that setup is finished it is 100% wireless to all the computers in your home that have wireless. The quality of the printout is great and it is very quiet while printing. The initial start up of the printer is a little noisy but that is the only time. I always thought printers always sounded like they were gonna blow when setting up for the first time anyway. Like they were gonna get up and walk away. Everybody in the house loves it. Stay away from HP laptops but you cant beat their printers. And oh yes....they say that it is compatible with Windows 7 but the software that comes with the printer will not install on a win 7 computer so you will have to download it from the HP website which is easy enough
