HP Officejet J6480 All-in-One Printer Reviews
With the appropriate caution (backed up registry, etc.)., ran it multiple times, reinstalled the HP driver software and everything works perfectly now. Am running Vista and installed the printer drivers using the CD which, I found out later, doesn't contain the latest set of drivers. Talked to a number of my friends who provide network and printer support to a variety of fortune 500 companies and they suggested that I might have corrupted registry entries and/or not all the appropriate registry entries were removed when uninstalling the Linksys software (early version of their PrintDriver software that may not have been completely Vista compatible). Replaced my wireless printer set up (Linksys Print Server connected to a HP6210) with this printer. Still had problems even after 2 weeks of e-mails and 7 hours on the phone with HP Support.
I was about to give up when I downloaded Free Windows Registry Repair 1.5 from Regsofts.com. In the future I will always download the latest drivers from HP when installing and using their hardware. Hope this helps. This is a great printer uses a bit too much ink if you don't set printer defaults to Fast Draft. Install seemed to complete without problems.
Based on articles and reviews on line, removed software and downloaded the correct drivers. They turned me over to MicroSoft who very quickly tried to turn me back to HP. Used the printer for a few days and started encountering WORDEXE.COM errors when exiting word after printing a document. Scanning to PC and Faxing from PC is simple and can be done by anyone in the family. All in all, I would buy the J6480 again the wireless feature allows me to remove a number of components from my network and works flawlessly. Be cautious when installing the software as you can end up with a lot of extra HP "bloat ware" on your PC.
But perhaps the two greatest things about it are 1) Being able to print wirelessly from my laptop in another room of the house, and 2) Printing on both sides without having to remove and reload the paper. Thanks HP. All I know is this printer does it without error and without fail. I've used it to send faxes, scan receipts for expense reports, and make copies of important documents. I realize there are many printers on the market that do all of these things, but I don't know enough about them to comment. I have been a fan of HP printers for many years now, and after purchasing and using the Officejet J6480, I feel stronger than ever that HP printers are awesome. I love it. The AIO printer does everything promised.
Nice picture and print quality. Would recommend and have to others, and they are also happy with the product. No problems to set up. So far so good with the new printer.
I haven't used the copier or fax yet, but it prints well and fast and scans really well. It works absolutely well. I would recommend it to any and everyone. I like the auto-duplexing option, which saves paper, and the wireless option as well. Pictures come out really clear and like they were never even scanned. I have no regrets purchasing this computer. Again, no regrets in buying this printer.
I read the reviews and had reservations about buying this machine. It has and does everything without costing you an arm an a leg on ink. The software behaves well on my machine (much improved over the previous HP software). they work unattended. For printing 2 sided brochures on normal print setting it is excellent and again doesn't hog ink (unlike some other printers I've had). I then downloaded the software and installed it. It seemed to me after reading the reviews that most problems were when using with an OS other than XP and since I use XP pro I thought I would take a chance (I had an HP 7110 that was about 5 yrs.
In fact I like the software. old and after that one had multiple problems I tried a Canon MP530. Overall, you can't beat it at these prices. it manages my faxes, scans and printing without hogging my resources and couldn't be easier to use. that's the beauty of 2 sided printers. This machine is relatively small and about average as far as noise level. I found the setup easy. which brings me running back to HP again).
The fax works fine and still no problem with the document feeder (the HP 7110 had terrible paper feed problems). The 2 sided is a little slow but who cares. PRESTO, everything worked so well that I've decided not to connect to the printer with wires. I'll print 30 brochures per week and do it at off times so I'm not sitting there waiting for my printer to be freed up for other things. I have an HP laptop about 3.5 years old with an AMD processor and 2 gigs of RAM. I followed the advice of other reviewers here and set-up the printer wireless first (had to manually enter the ssid and wep encryption but the printer manual directions made it easy). The printing is fast and clear on economy setting and doesn't use much ink.
