I bought this cpu because its four cores, just right get arrived in my office, I began to mount it in my msi p35 mobo with 4 gb ram corsair and 750 gb HDD, this pc will be used like a server, and so far, it has worked excellent, I really recomend it.
So far I haven't had any problems with this cpu. I'm pleased with Intel and don't plan on going back to AMD anytime soon.
I am a gamer, I don't like to overclock anything, in the past I usually did this, must of the time I get errors when playing, It can be the cooling system or whatever, the thing is that if you overclock the components you are limiting the life of the component, so for this reason I buy this CPU, for the price I consider is a great value for every dollar I invest on this, I can play WOW at great speed, with no delay.
my past q6600 gets too hot to try overclocking. Mine idles at 15 degrees and on load it reaches a maximum of 37 running at 3.2GHz without raising the volt. will certainly recommend it to anyone. this processor with added 12MB cache runs very fast.
Installation was a pain (the flimsy plastic pins kept popping out of the holes in my motherboard) and it is noisy and relatively ineffective at maintaining temperatures. I wouldn't pay more for one of the other quad-cores unless you insist on having the fastest thing out there. Take some of that money you saved by opting for this CPU instead of a higher model quad core, and buy a quality CPU cooler separately.
In short, put this (and an aftermarket CPU cooler) on your short list if you're building a system. As much as I like the CPU, however, it would be a shame to install it with the terrible stock fan included in the box. First off, this processor is undoubtedly the best deal out there among the Intel quad-cores.
Compared to the Q9550 at $570 and the QX9650 at $1000 or more, this CPU is a certified bargain. It has all of the features of those others (at least as far as I know) but just runs a touch slower (2.66 GHz instead of 2.8 or 3.0 GHz). There are other places in your system to spend your money where you'll get more performance for your dollar.
Your system will run quieter and cooler.
