I returned the drive to the seller. This is a very poor product and the software that came with it is terrible. There was nothing consistant about it.
Wow, you know those headaches you get when a product is so poor, and then you have to go through the hassle of sending it back. Terrible. My drive doesn't even look like the one illustrated in the directions.
The computer recognized the drive, but everything stopped once I put a disc in. Using my own compatible cables, I hooked up the drive, and then the pain began. And the instructions that come with the drive look like they were mimeographed 30 years ago.
The drive made my computer hang every time I put in a disc. First of all, I opened the box and found that the manufacturer had forgotten to include the power cables and USB cable as promised. An absolutely disastrous product.
I have Windows XP as well, but I don't think that's the problem.

my d drive on the laptop went out and this product same my mind it works very well and is small enough to just slide away in a drawer.
Using the device is easy to use. The product is so easy to install. I would definitely recommend this CD-RW external USB drive to everyone.
