Iomega Prestige 500 GB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive 34270 Reviews

I suspected a "sleep" issue since the I/O errors always coincided with it sleeping. The other important thing is that its worked perfectly with Time Machine for the last month, without any errors. One last thing. The build quality was phenomenal compared to the Lacie I bought.

Anyway, after checking the Web site for IOMega which assured me that ALL their drives were iMac/Time Machine compatible I bought this. I repartitioned the drive twice and also did a disk test which all came out fine, but after approx 5 days of use each time the Lacie would hang. Well I bought this drive after the Lacie I had originally bought kept getting I/O errors when used on an iMac with Time Machine. Those who want to use this drive for iMac should SERIOUSLY consider this. Does exactly what it was bought for. And to top it all it WAS CHEAPER than the Lacie.

Nice metal like casing that matches the iMac nicely. The Lacie I had to hide behind the desk, it was that loud. This drive sits behind my iMac and although you do hear a little disk noise it really is negligible. Nice solid feel to it. First thing I noticed was how quiet the drive was compared to the Lacie.

Its an external hard drive, and theres not much that I expected out of it except to back up my computer incrementally.and It does so successfully. Great deal for the price. Very sleek design, solid feeling, and hopefully long lasting.

I definitely recommend it. Excellent functionality, cool design, great storage capacity, best value for money.

I got it about a month ago and am getting another one. You don't have to install anything and it boots up quickly. The design is simple and clean. Fits nicely next to hard drive. Simply plug in USB & turning on the switch is all it takes. Heats up fast, but then it IS an external hard drive.Iomega Prestige 500 GB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive 34270

No formatting was necessary (although for use on a MAC, there is a need to reformat the device). I bought the Iomega Prestige 500 GB External Hard Drive to use as both a backup drive and additional storage on a Dell system running Vista. I was very pleased and impressed that I just plugged it in and it came right up. All in all, this device was just what I needed and I am totally satisfied. The free backup software that came with it (EMC2 Retrospect) may or may not be the most fully functional backup software on the market, but it was free and it is much faster than the stock Microsoft backup.
