Makes a slight clicking sound when working, but it is barely noticeable over the fans on my PC and I usually can't hear it. Arrived in 4 days with free shipping. Shipping was great as always thanks to Amazon. I am satisfied with my purchase and I would recommend this to anyone looking for extra storage space. The aluminum finish and blue light look good and are functional. I put it on the stand to help keep it cool, it gets warm but not hot. Plug it in and it is immediately recognized and ready to go. This product works as advertised.
I store all my information on this drive and i have lots of space left. It has an external power connector, so you have to have a wall socket around and then you switch it on, and connect to your laptop/computer. It gets detected as any normal external device and you can drag drop items. I have had it for about an year and no problems. The real seller was the price which is really low for such huge capacity.
It does what it is supposed to do. i believe that I am covered for at least the next 2 years. It is heavy, which is expected of 500 Gbs. Drive is really nice.
Drive "died" after about two weeks use once my son had transferred most of his key files to it. Very poor
The drive was recognized immediately by all of the computers that I use. Outside of these issues, it works perfect. There was an earlier complaint about it being noisy, but my drive is very quite. Features that I wish it had -. 2 - There is no backup software provided. The transfer rate is very fast and I have heard nothing from the drive when it is operating. 1 - It has to be manually shut off when turning off the computer.
I was skeptical because of the review that reported noise, but since I had intended it for backup and not active use, I figured the price was good for the purpose. It turned out better than expected. It's a beautiful piece of equipment, and I have no complaints. I have backed up 400GB of movies on it, and plan to buy another one (my only regret is that I should have bought more storage space). The drive was found right away and worked easily complementary to my system and other drives. One neat feature is an on-off switch (the WD does not have this), so I can turn it off while leaving it USB connected to the computer (instead of plugging it out whenever I'm done). Setup was super easy, true plug-and-work with no need for reading instructions if you know how to use your own computer.
In fact it is quieter than my 250GB WD MyBook, takes up less space, looks better, and provides faster movement of data. I picture my DVD player replaced with a my two Iomega 500GB hard drives and a sleek laptop to send everything to my TV on command. I am very happy with this purchase. I highly recommend this purchase. As for the "noise" reported by another commenter, there is none on the device I received. Out of the box, the drive is aesthetically pleasant, with a sleek stainless steel finish, and a cool blue light when it's operating. It fit right in with my work area, even improving the general look of the desk because of its nice vertical holder.
At under $100 and free shipping, it's a good bargain.
