Iomega Prestige 1 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive 34275 Reviews

The price on the Iomega Prestige 1 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive was too good to pass up. I had a much smaller external drive that was about full so I really needed a new one.

I haven't had much time to work with the new drive but so far everything is working well. It was very easy to install. It has a switch to shut it down when you are not using it. I think this is very important both for security reasons and to keep the drive from needlessly spinning day and night when it isn't even being used.

The only problem that I had was that when I first installed it, the drive didn't show up in "Explore". I didn't do anything about it and two days later it showed up and has since. It was probably a glitch with my "glitchey" computer.

Delivered from Amazon in 2-days at extra cost, installed OK. After copying 250GB from an older Iomega drive, it lasted about 3-5 days, then Win Vista said I had to format the drive in order to use it??!! Tried that but two Vista machines said format failed! Tech support said they first wanted to rule out the power supply and would send another in 7-10 business days. I respectfully requested **quality support with overnight shipping at their cost.** Finally they agreed. I will followup on this post if and when they deliver.

Read other reviews and comments more thoroughly. Found others who had been thru the "rule out the power supply first", the long delays and hassles from Iomega support, despite trying to do the right thing with Iomega. I have a 1yr old 500GB Iomega that works fine and it finally dawned on me that I could try that power supply - it's compatible. Same problem. Decided to take the advice of those who said avoid the "rule out power supply" hassle and delay from Iomega support, just get a refund from Amazon and buy something else suitable. The Amazon refund process is quite simple. I ordered a Western Digital and canceled the Iomega power supply shipment.

Purchased this item end of 2009 and within a week I had to return it due to a very loud clicking noise that kept emanating from the device, very bad coming from a hard drive. Now, it's common for a drive to make a bit of noise during start-up but from then on it's supposed to be pretty quiet. This was the beginning of a slightly challenging experience.

I contacted the manufacturer who informed me that the noise may be due to a faulty power supply and that a new supply would be sent to me. Upon arrival, I plugged in the new supply and still the drive continued to make the "clicking" noise.

After trying the new supply with no luck, I again contacted the maker who informed me that a another drive would have to be sent to me. I figured as much, so I did not complain until they decided to make me jump through a bunch of hoops.

I would need to pay to send the faulty drive back to them and upon receipt they would send me a "refurbished" drive. Of course this process takes a week or more due to "processing and mail" time.

If i wanted my "refurbished" drive sooner, I could, after paying them a non-refundable $25.00 fee to send me the drive first and I send the bad drive back within 2 weeks.

The issue I had with this was simple, why do I need to pay anything for their faulty product to be shipped and why do I get a used hard drive in return, especially when I paid for a new one?

None of these options appealed to me, so I informed the rep that I was just going to return the item to Amazon as I will not be charged for return shipping and I get my money back. After placing me on hold (this was all done via chat, by the way) the rep told me that his supervisor approved the $25 fee waiver to get my "refurbished" drive sent first. However, I would need to call their support center directly so they can take my credit card information in case I failed to send them (on their dime) the bad drive. Slightly annoying, but I did it and got my drive.

Overall, I was not impressed with my experience and would consider another drive had I did it all over again.

The drive arrived promptly - installed painlessly - and works flawlessly so far. My friend also has one and loves it. Great deal for a 1TB HD!

Excellent product, 5 star across the boards. The noise is negligible, its cheap, its huge in capacity, compact in size, its easy to use and installs in seconds, it ways very little, less than most of the competing brand names! This is good not only for being more convenient, it ways far less than the 3 pound threshold for shipping and packing, so what you may save on the price tag of most other brands you'll end up paying on shipping.

Not only this, I had a great service provided by Amazon. I'm tight on cash (like almost everybody) so to save some pennies I asked for a free shipping service (that usually takes between 5 and 8 days); I was surprised by a notice I received the same day I ordered Iomega, informing me that it had already been shipped. Next day before I left for work I received it at my doorstep! Next day shipping for Free!

I'm very happy with the product and the service!
