IPEVO Free.1 USB Handset For Skype (CDPU-501) Reviews

Awesome. a real one. What I didn't expect was the clarity of the voice. I own a mac, and it's so hard to find a Skype phone. I love this phone. This is Skype certified, so I knew it'd work. When 2 people use Skype, and you listen in with this baby, it's much clearer than a regular phone.

I have returned the phone once and not sure if a new one or the same was returned back to me, but it still has this problem. I have already seen a couple of other phones that are much less in price, but haven't seen any reviews to judge their quality. The long cord is not needed by me. It doesn't take up much room in my bag and complements my Macbook.

At one point my favorite government bureaucracy, TSA, wanted to see what it was, as I had the phone in my bag with six feet of phone cable wrapped around it. Can only get by email from IPEVO and they do not keep up correspondence. Of course this makes it useless and I have to revert to the keypad in the Skpe window. I will probably look around in the future for something better to use with the Macbook.

The reason for three stars. Biggest problem I have is when calling someone and you have to enter a menu item (press 1 for.)., it gives off a double tone. Support is not the best. Like other's reviewing, running an application instead of a driver is a little cumbersome, but I don't use it all the time unless I am making a direct call over Skype.

About half the length would be fine or something retractable would be even better. I purchased the IPEVO phone a couple of months ago (in White) and it's okay. I don't know if it is because I have a call recorder installed as well, a problem with Skype, or something else, but it is frustrating to not be able to use the keypad after connecting without giving off a double tone.

In the end, it's way better than the headsets that I've used and better than talking at my MacBook (which, surprisingly, works fine with Skype - no headphones, etc just talking toward the MacBook. I opened the phone and found that the shielding wires from the cable were splayed out all over and I think they were shorting out against some other components.

I cleaned it up and it's working again but I'm sure that's not the last of the problems: it's kind of a cheap toy-like phone. I'll probably try a cordless one when this breaks but for now it's still doing it's job and it's lasted a LOT longer than I expected.

no feedback occurs). It looks like it's just sloppy assembly.

This phone worked pretty well on my old PowerBOok and my new MacBook for a while but eventually stopped showing up when I plugged it into the USB port. Not bad for the low price.

Also, this cable problem has nothing to with rough handling on my part or poor design of the cable.

Downloaded the latest version for the Mac and it works like a charm. This one is a No-Brainer. Bought this phone for my MacBook Pro since there are not a lot of support for the Mac on VOIP and Skype. Crystal clear conversations with no echo or any problems in getting it setup. Thank-Heavens for the ease of setting up devices on an Apple. Buy It. Tried a Linksys but they do not even acknowledge Apple.

Repeated attempts to contact customer service for a replacement have gone unanswered. I would not recommend. I bought this phone which has a lot of problems, including the fact that no one can hear me when I talk on it.
