I was looking for something specific. Clean, well balanced sound in a small enough package but loud enough. For the price, couldn't ask for more. No big subwoofer on these, but the sounds is loud enough and more importantly for me, clean sounding. I tried 3 sets of speakers for my computer.
These speakers don't do thumpa-thumpa or explosions. I listen to all kinds of music during my workdaydance, classical, 50s cool jazz, alternative, folk, countryand the Duets do justice to them all. I'm also glad that they have a small footprint and are fairly small overall, so space is not an issue. Bass is ok, but if bass response is very important to you, you'll need to add a sub. These are amazingly smooth-sounding speakersmuch better than the $120 Advents they replaced. They have excellent imaging and present a surprising amount of detail from the music.
range than this. My former set of speakers were cheaper but came with a bass floor unit. The shape is also very artistic- like having a sculpted piece of art to enjoy as I go about working in my kitchen.
I do miss that floor unit a little as it added a warm and rich vibration to certain musical and vocal passages, but the bass response of these speakers seems to also resonnate well on the countertop where I have them positioned. I am very happy with these speakers which I purchased to amplify the sound of my SONY VAIO laptop. I really like the styling including the silvery sheen of the speaker cloth.
I wouldn't expect to do any better in the $40. Everything about these speakers makes me pleased with my choice. I purchased the white ones for my kitchen where they match nicely with the other white decor: a toaster, microwave, clock radio, and flour and sugar cannisters. They produce crisp highs, solid lows and a quality midrange on all types of programming both of music and of voice.
After two weeks of minimal use, the speakers didn't even turn on. A faint buzzing noise was present which was especially noticible when speakers were ON while no audio signal from my computer was being sent to the speakers. I think I must have gotten a bum pair, as the other reviews are good. The speakers are stylish, but I couldn't judge the sound quality because of the buzzing or vibration noise.
The bass isn't that great either on these speakers. Oh, and the nob is hard to turn. I have to use two hands to turn the them off; one hand to keep the speakers stable.
I think it's a little overhyped on amazon.com. Don't expect too much out of them though. Oh, and there is an occasionally static sound, it happens quite frequently when you start using them but lessens as you use them more.
They're good speakers though. hope this helps. These speakers are great for the price.
I would definitely suggest these speakers to buyers who are looking for quality speakers with a good sound on a budget, and who doesn't care about having Excellent sounding speakers. And the speaker with the nob gets really hot sometimes but nothing to serious i think.
