JVC UXG28 Audio Micro Component System Reviews
This stereo is adequate, with the volume up there is a little bass. The speaker wires are short, but setup is easy and it fits in small spaces. Very easy to setup but I would not use it anywhere that I needed top quality sound.
Vocals are clear, and talk radio or audio books are especially nice (not boomy). Radio reception is fine, equivalent to the boombox it was replacing. I like the up-front USB and 1/8" audio inputs, which make it convenient to tie in an external audio source. This item was purchased to replace a 15-year-old Sony boombox that finally stopped working. The AM antenna is cumbersome. His also occurs with USB / MP3 player selection.
After you memorize the location of the buttons this isn't really an issue, but it's a bad design. The hiss is very apparent within 5 feet of unit, with your ears directly in front of speakers. For the price of this item I would have expected better. Across the room (12') the hiss is not very noticeable, and with CD audio playing hiss is well in the background. Initial setup was easy - plug in, connect antennae (1 AM, 1 FM) and turn on. Sound quality: Average. The ability to place speakers where you need them (with plenty of speaker cable) is nice.
This is because the buttons are convex plastic over the writing which is on a reflective surface - when you look at an angle, the text bends. A built-in multi-function EQ lets you change the configuration. Good mid-range and upper bass, but you need to place near a back wall to get any bass lower than ~100hz. As for treble there is a noticable hiss, even when volume was turned down to zero and/or when CD was paused. Design: The button functions are hard to see unless looking at them head on.
I haven't had any difficulties with it though I haven't used it a lot. It fits nicely in a limited space, looks good, and produces a great sound for its size. The buttons on the middle component are a little difficult to see if you're not looking at them straight on. Depending on the angle, the print refracts. Other than that, everything works well. The system is just what I was looking for.
I like the features and was looking for something to play my mp3 on (not an ipod) this system has been everything i was looking for. Nice shelf system, its small but has good sound and was easy to set up and operate.
