and it is such a darling, sweet bit of Americana. [the parts that control movement of the eyes seemed particularly flimsy; I am on the clumsy side, so I was sure to handle the clock gently]. there is also no loud 'ticking' sound from the clock: it runs quietly, with a soothing, 'old fashioned' ticking sound, which is nice; I am a light sleeper. while it seemed a bit on the cheap or flimsy side when I removed it from the box, the instructions, which are well-written, allowed easy assemblage. nothing. keeps great time, and though I don't anticipate any problems, there are instructions and advice on what to do if the clock malfunctions. I am really VERY pleased with my purchase.
I installed the batteries, put the back on the cat, and waited. the eyes move back and forth and the tail waves gently, just as it should. if you are on the fence about this purchase, I'd say: buy it. so I took the back off, put it on again, and when I hung it this time, it worked like a charm. it's a great, darling clock. the purchase of this clock has made checking the time a treat.
The manufacturer offers great online support - haven't tried to call, haven't needed to. The tail failed to wag and I found several suggestions online, the first of which corrected the situation. I noticed yesterday that the clock was about 7 minutes slow, after being in operation only two months. The Kit-Cat Clock is so cool looking. I will check online to see if I can find anyting about it, but we are pleased all told with the purchase.
If that's the case, then you are making a good purchase.as long as you don't care that the tail and eyes won't always move. I bought this clock for a retro-themed room I recently redecorated. I can flick the tail and they will start again, but only work for about 5 minutes before they stop again. If you are buying this clock, chances are good that you are mainly buying it because of what it is. While the clock is super cute, it doesn't work very well.
The tail and eyes stop moving ALL THE TIME. I have tried all the suggestions (tightening the little screw inside), but nothing works for long. The clock actually runs fine, but the lack of movement is disappointing. The clock itself is very cute (a little creepy at times, but still cute), and I would have rated it higher had the tail and eyes worked like they are supposed to. Luckily the room I bought the clock for is small, so the size is not too noticable.
Also, this clock is a lot smaller than I expected.
Be aware that there is a model out there using 1 'AA' battery, this one does poorly. Tail stops. This model (using 2 'C' cells) really works great, just like the original.
I checked the site where it was made they give you a list of things to check and how to correct any problems. They also list the reasons why problems occur. But i love the cat. The site also states only call if you can't fix the problems.At that price i don't think thats really fair. I love the clock it keeps time, but every week or so the movement stops.
