Koss VC20 Volume Control Reviews
I've occasionally noticed that the connection isn't perfect, but mine's been banged around a lot and dragged on the floor of my study. I've always been able to get rid of any connection problems by just ensuring that the my phones are plugged in tight. This product does what it is supposed to do. This product comes in handy.
Being able to adjust the volume is an added bonus. I purchased this volume control simply to give my headphones an extension cord.
After a few months, I'm still satisfied with the purchase. It's natural for the high-end to lose some brightness as volume decreases, and is especially a problem for old ears that are losing their ability to hear higher frequencies as decibel level decreases. This little Koss volume control is a cheap and effective device. My mid-eighties Pioneer CD player now used as a bedside player has proved to be a better sounding and more reliable machine than a series of inferior-built portables. Please note that it's not an amplifier, which means it's great for dialing down the volume, but is not going to amplify a weak signal. The Koss VC20 Volume Control performs as advertised. One reviewer here complained that the high-end was degraded as the control decreased the volume.
The only problem with the Pioneer is that there is no volume control for the headphone input, and with a sensitive pair of cans (Grado SR80s) way too loud. It's a simple, lightweight volume attenuator that brings down the volume to a bearable listening level. Not so in my experience. It sounds fine to me.
The Koss VC20 Volume Control works very well with the Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7 QuietPoint Active Noise-Cancelling Headphones. Great combination.
However, at $8.99 (what I paid at the time) they are pricey for what they do. This Koss VC20 was perfect and I also got the added convenience of a volume control. Nevertheless, I am happy with my purchase. I just needed an extension cable for my Sony headphones that had very short wire length (they connect to my cell phone's hands free cable and that's why they have been made that way), but most of the extensions available are at least 3ft in length. These days you can pretty much buy a cassette/CD walkman for that price.
