Charming set of legos that include some open-ended pieces with recognizable characters such as magical creatures, a broom, wizard hats and more. This set comes with a cardboard backdrop that allows the child to imagine the scene in different Diagon Alley shops. Though pricey, this set is special -- and any young Harry Potter fan would thrill to have it. The vendor expedited my shipping unprompted, which was also appreciated.
I got this toy for Christmas a year ago, but I never got around to writing a review for it, so here goes. You get two shops and one backdrop. The only character it comes with is Hermione. She's dressed in Muggle clothes, a blue top and blue jeans(or some kind of blue pants). The details on the backdrop are quite good. One of the shops comes with potions(or something of the sort), a cloak stand, two cloaks(I think they're red and purple), two spell books, a cupboard with two drawers in it, two connecting cupboards with just one big space in each of them, a jug of someting, a tan broomstick( sort of weird, because all of the other broomsticks in the other sets were dark brown), two hats, and a weird shelf that holds half of the previously listed stuff. All of the furniture in this shop is orange, light green, and white. The second shop comes with four wands(their colours are blue, purple, green, and red. They're sort of see-through. All of the other wands in the other sets are brown, grey, or black. Weird.), a frog or toad, a grey owl, a rat or mouse, a crystal ball or a gazing ball, a cash register type thing, a cupboard that comes with coins with 10, 20, 30, and 40 on them(I guess they're supposed to be sickles, but they don't look like them at all.), a pink see-through trunk, a lobster or scorpion that's supposed to go in the trunk, another weird shelf for half of the stuff to go on, and a bird perch(for the owl, I guess.). The colours for this shop are orange, turquoise, light green, purple, and white. The colours don't match the other sets(the sorting hat, snape's class, forbidden corridor, room of the winged keys, etc.) The only sets the colour scheme matches are the classrooms, and the gryffindor house. Those of which are the same colour. It's not really that durable as the set has all of those bottles, animals, wands, etc, that fall off a lot. It's a pretty cool set, but it should come with Harry, Hagrid, and maybe Ollivander from the wand shop and Madame Maulkins. Then it would be following the story. And the most stupid thing about this is, Hermione can't wear the hats. She has to take off her hair to put one on, and then she looks bald. She also has this little grin, and reminds me of a fish. I guess they included her in this set, so it would appear "feminine". That probably explains the colour scheme too. But it's not that bad. My cousins who are boys both loved the set and I did too. It's suitable for just about everybody. But I would watch out with little kids and pets that might eat the pieces. It should be bigger with five or ten shops. Get this Lego set!
This set is perfect for all the small details needed to perfect your lego world. I wasn't thrilled by the colors since they are supposed to be part of the Harry Potter series. The only bright colors I really like are the potions bottles as described when Harry's walking through Diagon Alley with Hagrid in book 1. If you're into details, details, details, and lots of accessories, this set is for you. It has cabinets, drawers, coins, potions, books, 5 animals (toad,scorpion,owl,rat,cat),wands,and lots more. The Hermione mini figure in muggle clothes is also a nice touch. I like the cloak stand and the hats also. I am going to use the red cloak for Gryffindor quidditch robes. This set is simply to fine tune your rooms with accessories.
This set is excellent! It's just what I needed for Harry, Ron and Hermoine to buy their school suplies in! It is a good idea to make the lid into a tray because of all the loose parts. I love all the tiny details in this set! Like the kitten, books, potion bottles and crystal ball! This is NOT the only set with Hermoine in muggle clothes as the Hogwarts express has her on it! I don't like the way all the shops are put together, there are wands in a shop selling animals! I don't like the colours either but it's a great set anyway! I give this one 3/5 for durability because it isn't very strong and there are loads of loose parts. This set is great when added to House of Gryffindor and Hogwarts classrooms! I am getting the Hogwarts Express next! I can't wait!
For me, this set was mainly used as a sort of "super-detailing" set for the other Harry Potter sets I own. It is crammed with all kinds of small details, items, animals, and furniture. Lots of potions, bottles, stands, and hats. You can configure minifigs with this set, add bottles to scenes, and all kinds of very, very fun ideas. On it's own, as the set is intended, it completes two very detailed shops, with a cardboard backdrop that provides two solid walls for each shop (complete with good detail on the cardboard itself).The set also comes with one Hermionie minifig. (Note: She's in casual, non-Hogwarts attire. I found that she looked quite decent in a spare Harry Potter body, legs, and cloak, with her head and hair substituted. Since each set comes with one Harry figure, most people are sure to have such a spare.) One solid point off for the background being nothing more than a piece of cardboard - kids can easily destroy such a thing in a flat minute. The rest of the kit is solid Lego quality.
