Linksys WUSB54GSC Compact Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with SpeedBooster Reviews
My recommendation is stick with Amazon and stay away from [.]. They offerred to fix it (after posting a previous review). Got a used product instead of new. But all attempts to connect with the "project manager" were futile.
They too said YES, it was VISTA compatible. I researched carefully before buying a second one to see if this brand and model would work. Pay attention to 32 bit vs 64 bit systems. Now I need the same for two new VISTA systems. Spare yourself the phone calls and the delays to get to the truth. Finally a second call to Syslink tech support confirmed that this adapter IS NOT compatible with 64 bit VISTA systems. I bought one of these a year ago for an XP system.
I was hoping to be able to use this one and just buy one more. Having disappointed two grandchildren with my "Surprise.", we are now waiting for another brand and model to come in. My low rating is due to the false information on the web page, namely the statement that "This product is Certified for Windows Vista." IT IS NOT certified for 64 bit VISTA systems. When trying to install I was led on a wild goose chase to find the correct driver online. Since I got conflicting information I even called Linksys.
The one I had worked decently anywhere in our home so instead of trying something new, I thought I would stick to what I knew worked. I moved all around the house for 3 days straight trying to get the signal with the new adapter. Uninstalled/Re-installed software. and the signal is so weak I frequently lose connection. There are only two places in my 1,500sq ft home that this adapter can find our wireless router. I have no choice but to believe this is a quality control issue on the part of Linksys considering the volume of mixed reviews. The only reason this gets any stars is because my first one worked well.
(Did I mention that I have to use the "extension cord" that is included because one of the places it works is in the center of my kitchen. I purchased this Linksys Compact Wireless-G Network Adapter because my daughter broke off the plug-in part on the one I currently owned (that I previously purchased through a "big box store" 6 months earlier). then I noticed that the new adapter can't pick up a signal. I WAS WRONG TO ASSUME THAT THIS WOULD WORK JUST AS MY PREVIOUS ONE HAD. nothing. so I have to hang it over a chair so I can set my laptop down on the nearby table). I took it out of the box and plugged it in - it seemed to replace the other one with no problems.
Currently I'm using this product with my desktop (ease of use). I'm currently using Fios as the ISP. If I had to do it over again, I would opted for a PCI card with an antena. My desktop is a Quad core Q6700 as oppose to a T7250 dual core 2GHZ laptop. The setup was extremely easy (as expected), but the range of the usb wireless-g was OK. I'm a big fan of Linksys products. I'm comparing my laptop built in wireless-g to the usb, and the difference in speed is remarkable.
Plan to buy a second one for another computer on our network. So easy to use and works great.
