Logitech Harmony 670 Universal Remote Reviews
Even when I got most units to work more steps were needed to turn on the TV, cable box, etc. I actually had a much easier time programming my Marantz amplifier remote to pretty much do the same thing that I was hoping the Harmony would do. A cheap universal remote purchased at a grocery store would work better than the Harmony. The programming steps are a real pain. I never could get the remote to link with the cable box remote (Time-Warner) or find a code that would work. It took many tries to get the other remotes to sync with the Harmony. The product description as well a various reviews indicated this remote would do what I wanted in the most efficient and least number of steps for controlling my plasma TV,etc. than with a much older RCA universal remote as well as the original cable remote.
Great product, easy to set up. Including watching and recording TV, playing DVD's, listening music, and or changing from each. If you have an entertainment center or rather a dish/cable, dvd, stereo, TV, etc, this universal remote allows easy and intuitive sequencing of all activities.
However, I can say without hesitation that once it's programmed it's a piece of cake to use. I finally can see my coffee table. I had my A/V person program it for me so I can't review how easy it was to program. I highly recommend that any one with more than two different devices purchase a Harmony 670.
Logitech have replaced all of them but it is a pain because I have to use my old remotes when it is not working. When the remote is working it is great. 3 of the remotes broke when I tried to connect it through the USB port, the other one had a hard fault on the circuit board. I am on my 4th remote.
Many people say the setup is difficult and the Logitech software is very buggy. The key thing is that the Harmony remote CAN control every single function of every single remote that you own. Again, I'm baffled why many people don't love these things, I will always own one now. The activity-based tasks are a godsend to your family members that don't quite understand the finer points of universal remotes and the necessary steps that need to be taken to get a DVD movie to play with the home theater on. Both the online setup and the physical software from Logitech have worked flawlessly for me and I use a 5 year-old laptop to accomplish it.
I've had my Harmony 670 for a couple of weeks now and I just don't agree. My wife loves this thing, no intimidation factor whatsoever. After reading countless reviews on the Harmony 670 and other Harmony models, I was a little apprehensive about buying one. Also, no pulling out the old remotes for a single function that can't be programmed onto the Harmony. I have 7 components (and 7 remotes) and the Harmony controls each one completely and perfectly, even older components.
Yes, it does take some time to make the remote absolutely perfect for your situation, especially if you have alot of component but you will have a functional remote controlling everything within an hour or so and it's easy to do.
