Logitech QuickCam Ultra Vision SE Webcam Reviews
The product is easy to install and use, no issues when used with Skype and other programs. Great resolution and color reality. Software is reliable and easy to use.
I also use a Mac Wireless keyboard and just ordered a Bluetooth TrackBall. On the PC, the camera, will follow you if you move aroundit doesn't do this on the MAC. My 15 year old niece loves it. On the Mac it worked with PhotoBooth and iChat.
On the other hand, I find PC's to be a PITA to work withit works, but it is not as easy as using on a MAC. I personally, rarely use it, but I can see the potential for as a video phone. The size of this display and the farther distance away from the camera, provides a better field of view and an in-your-face camera. I wish it has still higher resolution, but it does it's job well. This product works better on a PC than a MAC. Hit "Command" and "+" to zoom text sizes to read the news from across the room.
Note I did not try this with iMovie. Very cool.
By the way, the Mac Mini has worked great for web browsing. It has pretty good color and makes a good sharp image.
I highly recommend the Mac Mini hooked up to a flat panel.
At present I use it on a Mac Mini hooked up to a flat panel TV. You can't go wrong for this price also.
Overall, I think this is a great webcam. I wish more of my friends and family had similar set-ups, as it would be great to see people at a distance and be able to talk to them.
It has a great picture even with poor lighting. I've had a couple of cheaper webcams but this one is well worth the money.
The audio on this Logitech Ultra Vision SE has been distorted when using the built-in microphone with Skype. The first Logitech Ultra Vision I had was the white model. My computer kicks butt, runs great without the Ultravision Web cam and the Logitech software. It's made of plastic. It sounded plastic and was plastic. looks the same, but just white. I haven't checked the inner lens assembly to see what the inner lenses are made of.
I'm running a Dell XPS 410 PC with Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit with an Intel Core 2 Duo 6700 processor, 8 gigs of Kingston 800MHz DDR2 RAM and two hard-drives being run in raid 0 array. The other thing I want to mention concerns the outer lens on this camera. How many web-sites have been selling this web-cam claiming it has an "All-Glass" lens. I wanted to check-out the lens. I even took a small knife to the outer lens and easily scratched it deeply. It had been too difficult to disassemble and I didn't care at that point. It ran well on my Dell XPS computer running Vista Ultimate though the software had been buggy from time to time causing occasional issues.
Web-sites along with Logitech have claimed the lens to be "all glass" and that's bull***. I've purchased several Logitech webcams in the past with the two most recent being Logitech Ultra Vision webcams. I've had audio issues I haven't been able to resolve no matter how careful I installed their software always by the book I might mention - even reinstalling the operating system twice starting from scratch. The outer lens is not made of glass. My black Logitech Ultra Vision SE has had issues from day one using the same computer and operating system.
It has sounded over-modulated causing distortion to the point that people I'd talk with using Skype could hardly understand me.
It doesn't.
Logitech software has sucked, plain and simple.
I dont'know why.
I never had this problem with my white Ultra Vision webcam.
Even Logitech customer service admitted it when I emailed them.
I tapped on it with a small, metal screwdriver, even tapped on it with my teeth.
I had taken my Ultra Vision Web-Cam apart before throwing it out.
and now they've been caught in a lie having advertised the Ultra Vision having an "all-glass" lens.
overall i think it's a great product. so this is only for use with im programs (ichat, skype, etc.). i paid $140 @ the apple store (should have bought it on amazon. expenssive.
when using on windows, it's a very high quality camera and the features are incredible. you can pretty much mount it on any monitor (with the exception of laptops). the microphone is cristal clear. imovie requires a firewire hdcam to work. and until Steve Jobs and apple get a little smarter and realize that people wanna have the option to buy usb cams for their macs, im gonna have to deal with it~. it's a little bulky. pros:.
that's pretty much it. -pedro cons:. while on the mac it was easier to install (just plug it in, and restart the comp), on the pc it has alot of features which are not available on the mac version (like the auto lighting feature, the "follow me" feature, etc). DOES NOT WORK WITH IMOVIE. with no drivers to download. the zoom is not optical, it's digital, therefore, the more you zoom in, the grainier and more pixelated it looks.
even without the additional features on the mac, it still looks alot clearer than the "isight" that comes with the new macs. 2 things. WORKS ON MAC. i have a mac and a pc in my house, and i really like the fact that i can bring it back and forth between computers. i was in a pitch dark room and it looked clear as day. lol).
It is a very well made cam (it doesn't feel like a flimsy plastic web cam), and it works on both mac and pc. ok. the "low light mode" is simply AMAZING. and without having to use Macam.
