Clear reception for me nearly all the time in a suburban/rural area. The Maximo FM Transmitter works exactly as promised. Simple to hook up and use. Keeps the palyer charged too. The volume isn't what I'd like but I suspect that's due more to the Sansa MP3 Player than the transmitter.
This device needs a quiet station for it to function properly. I routinely set it to one of two stations and can drive anywhere in the city with minimal interference. The other thing to be aware of is that different cars may have very different properties when using this device.
If you have a routine, long commute, you might want to check at several points along your route. One of them can not use this device within 45 miles of Chicago. But users need to understand the limitations of this type of device. I've found this device to be very useful and will continue to use it until I get a direct tap into the radio audio section.
I've been using this with both a Sansa View and Sansa E280 and both work well. I don't know why one car works so much better than the other. I routinely use this device in a small city (250K people). Before purchasing any product like this, check out your FM car radio and verify that there are spots with no stations and preferably no loud static. Overall, this seems to be a good product based on a few months of use. In this city, there's several quiet spots on the FM dial. However there was discernable static throughout much of the city. We have two cars.
PS. The other has been usable through most of chicago except for the skyway and downtown. When I drive my daughter to college, I need to change the station as we approach the destination because my normal quiet spot has an active station there. The quieter the spot on the dial, the better this will work.
But volume must be turned up a little too high. Works very well. Not sure whether it is the MP3 player or this transmitter. Wish that the volume would go up a little more.
I use a Sansa e280 in two cars one with a CD only and other car I use a $2 cassette adapter. Good product, if you can find an empty station away from other powerful stations. (Hint: The older technology, MUCH older). The ability to change presets is awesome and very convenient. The volume is low though. Guess which one sounds WAY better.
I like the look and feel of this device. The one real issue I have with it is the inability to block out even weak signals. The McCally cup holder unit I had for my stolen E280R was much better but they do not make a device like this for the Sansa Fuze. This is especially noticeable on quiet songs and between tracks. I live in a fairly rural area of East Texas but the FM dial is full. Even the most weak stations bleed through with static and distortion.
