This new mouse is just a smooth glide. I just recently bought this for myself, replacing a logitec keyboard that had finally failed on me. Oh well, just forces me to shut down my PC fully which really might be a pain, but save money in the future if I choose not to turn it back on for a while. I'm really impressed. My previous mouse has the navigating wheel that clicked when you moved it. Mines wireless with the 2.4 ghz usb receiver. I really like this keyboard. My usb receiver is in the back on my PC and cannot be seen by the mouse or the keyboard, and I haven't had any trouble with this feature at all.
I simply just adjusted the cursor speed and scrolling speed and I was ready to go. Sometimes I over glide, but it just takes a little getting used to. I got used to it so it was never a bother to me. The fact that I can zoom in on a certain section of a web page if the font is too small is great. I was really skeptical about this. I takes a long time getting used to cause I had a regular layout for so long.
Now having the ergonomic layout, my wrist pain is slowly going away and I feel that I don't have to strain over wrist placement.
The only feature that I don't like, is that it doesn't come with a sleep button my make my computer hibernate.
The wrist rest is nice and semi plush unlike traditional hard plastic rests.
My parents have a wireless mouse and keyboard and if its not in view of the IR receiver, you aren't using anything.
It comes with height adjustments, 3 different choices.
It works just like a wired keyboard and mouse would.
I really like that.
I actually stumbled upon this feature by accident, but it was a great discovery.
The space bar is a bit noisier then I would have liked, but the smooth button press and the smoothness of the mouse is great.
However, it probably took me longer to remember to take the mouse out of the keyboard drawer when closing the drawer (the mouse is too tall to fit in the closed drawer) than it did to get used to the different wrist position and the large size of the mouse. Another feature that I personally find most useful is the ability to control the speaker volume (or turn the speakers off/on) via the keyboard. Also, I have very small hands, so this mouse felt absolutely huge at first. For me, the little button that calls up the calculator is one of the neatest features of this keyboard I tend to use the Windows calculator a lot, and I'd always have to place a shortcut on the desktop (and then still switch to desktop view to launch it). It would be nice if the keyboard had LEDs to show the status of certain keys, such as Caps Lock. Did I say that I love it. I've used Microsoft's natural ergonomic keyboards since they first came out some 14, 15 years ago, and I've always loved them.
But that's a minor gripe. Battery life on both keyboard and mouse seems to be very good. The Favorites buttons are programmable, so I have them launching the applications I use most frequently. Some reviews I'd read indicated that the keyboard batteries wear out quickly, but that has not been my experience.
I've had keyboard and mouse since September and, with the exception of about a month's worth of out-of-town trips, am using both daily, generally 6 hours/day or more, and haven't had to replace the batteries in either the keyboard or the mouse. Still, every new keyboard takes a bit of re-building "finger memory", and this was is no exception. The little notification icon that appears briefly on the screen in the lower right corner just doesn't quite cut it for me I like to be reminded that my Cap Lock key is on. The controls for my speakers are difficult to get to and, if that's possible, even more difficult to manipulate, so having the controls integrated into the keyboard is simply fabulous. All in all, couldn't be happier with it.
The "baseball" mouse that comes with the keyboard took a lot longer to get used to, I've had Microsoft ergonomic laser mice before, but this one has a whole new shape and size and positions your wrist in a different way. Every once in a while, there's some lag with the input; I'm a fairly fast typist, and there are instances, although relatively rarely, when it just seems to shut down for a second or two and won't accept any input. Highly recommended, the only caveat being that if you're not used to Microsoft's ergonomic natural keyboards, it **will** take some getting used to. That re-learning curve was a bit steeper with this model than with previous ones, but all in all, it's a very, very comfortable keyboard, and I just love it. Seems Microsoft manages to slightly alter the keyboard layout and/or shape from version to version, so there's always a bit of re-training/re-learning involved.
In a word (or rather, in 3 words): I Love It. I did not notice the problems with the spacebar that some reviewers noted; to me, the spacebar feels perfectly natural and really not much different from my previous MS keyboards. I really like the "Favorites" buttons along the top of the keyboard.
Thus far, after a couple months, I am quite pleased with this wireless keyboard and mouse. It is different than what I have used my entire life (26 years) up to this point, but it doesn't feel much different at all. Change the batteries every 6 months and you're all set. I can recommend this product to anyone who does not like cords on their mouse and/or keyboard. The keyboard does occasionally skip while I am typing, but fortunate for me that is few and far between and my job does not require that I type 1000 words per minute (exaggeration), so my productivity is not affected by those few times. As long as your job doesn't require you to type as fast as possible all day long. The keyboard is a split keyboard and I have no complaints about it.
If I put the USB dongle in a slot on the back of the computer, the keyboard and mouse quit responding, so I'm stuck with the dongle up front. What is the greater disapointment is the mouse; quite honestly I could aim a flashlight easier. The pointer is sloppy and inacurate and after using the mouse for a few hours there are times when the right button quits respondinding. The software will not install on my Dell Precision 450 workstation so all of the extra keys are unavailable.I am unimpressed with the keyboard but, I am sure, I will eventually learn to deal with it. I am using the mouse keyboard to write this review and the mouse is absolutely frustrating at how inacurate it is. And to add insult to injury, Amazon dropped the price within hours of purchase.
Too much time at my laptop was causing neck, back, and wrist pain. I raised the laptop so that screen was at eye level, and purchased this keyboard and mouse. Highly recommend. Additionally, the keyboard and mouse are very comfortable to use and work perfectly. Spending the same amount of time on the computer, but my pain has disappeared.
