Microsoft Optical Desktop Elite for Bluetooth Reviews
The product itself is great - once you get to used to it. Not the hardware, it's the software. If you use Winamp, it will NOT scroll down if Intellipoint is installed. Keyboard feels like it can take a beating, the faux-leather handrest is very comfortable, and the mouse has a nice feel to it (unless you've got small hands). If you do care, then get Logitech; while their software is bloated as well, it at least works. Intellitype for the keyboard is fine, even useful.
Overall, as long as you don't care about customizing what the mouse buttons do (yes, the side ones work fine as forward/back functions w/o the software), then this is a good k/m set. One caveat: don't bother w/ MS's Intellipoint software/drivers for the mouse. It'll making using the mouse a chore. That's just the biggest bug; there are many more nuisances, including erratic and inaccurate scrolling. No problems with Vista x64.
However, why are you charging $340.00 for an item that Microsoft lists for $130.00. Something is JUST NOT RIGHT here. I've been looking for a decent keyboard for over a year. Logitech should burn in hell. Microsoft seems to be good.but not for $340. I do not own this yet, but would like to buy it.
It was kind of a pain, so I decided to keep the batteries in at all times. I bought this set because my notebook already had a Bluetooth receiver built in and I did not want to have to deal with an additional receiver. It works well with the exception that I wanted to save battery power by removing the batteries from the mouse when traveling, but when I put the batteries back in I had to go back through the sync process.
I would recommend trying it out in a retail store to get a feel for it. I have not used it long enough to comment on the battery life. The mouse is very big. I did not experience any lag with the keyboard or mouse, contrary to what other reviewer reported (I think this is purely a placebo effect on their part). The bluetooth adapter is small, and uses the windows bluetooth stack.
The keyboard is enormous and heavy. However, it does have a very nice wrist pad built in, and is great for typing. I did not use the adapter, since I already have one. A solid wireless desktop. Has most of the bells and whistles that you might want.
How can you beat that. The keyboard has lots of built-in keys to start common programs - email, internet, photos, music, and several fully programmable keys. - without cords or a mousepad (works great on the arm of the chair). Glenn G. Occasionally, on a reboot the computer can't detect the keyboard and/or mouse and you have to go through the setup process again (it takes about a minute) - which is annoying, but worth the trouble, because the product is otherwise great. Thater, Author of 'Harbinger of Doom'. I can sit on my recliner any distance from the computer screen and play games, check email, etc. Works great out of the box.
