Check which operating system your PC is currently running How you make the move to Windows 7 depends on your current operating system. - Windows Vista
The transition to Windows 7 should be pretty smooth, although you may need to update your system to the latest service pack first.
- Windows XP (or any other operating system)
Windows 7 is best experienced on a new PC with the latest hardware, but if your computer meets the minimum specifications, you can install Windows 7 on a PC running Windows XP. Windows 7 must be "custom" installed (also known as a "clean" installation) over Windows XP. Before beginning the installation, you'll need to copy your files and settings to an external drive. After Windows 7 has been installed you will need to re-install all of your programs using the original installation media and then copy over the files and settings you backed up to your external drive. Because Windows 7 requires a custom installation, we strongly recommend that you get help with this process from your local computer service provider.

Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Upgrade Reviews
Windows 7 is far and away the best OS that MS has ever produced. The driver base is solid and for the first time ever a new O.S. is faster than the previous version. Kudos to MS.
To begin with, for all those who use Photoshop CS3, this will not work in Windows 7. Actually I read about this issue all over the internet before trying it.
People tend to forget that every new Windows comes with attractive visual effects, which tend to consume a lot of system resources until you disable them. Windows 7 is no exception. If you have Vista, stay with it. It's good enough and works quite well. Windows 7 does not bring noticeable improvement. Both Windows 7 and Vista have a very annoying Windows explorer display.
Internet explorer 8 is designed for Windows 7, but it is dreadfully unstable.
I would therefore not recommend Windows 7.

Attention: Windows 7 will not let you open windows or links in Internet Explorer 8. I repeat, Windows 7 WILL NOT not let you download anything from a link, like a program, or open a new window, like to send an email. MicroSoft has posted a fix-it solution on their support website, but it does not work. I repeat IT DOES NOT WORK. Then, they tried to charge users who have already shelled out for the OS another $139 to buy a repair service (hard sell, really). However, the repair service would have tried to fix my computer using the same steps as the free technical support when I asked. (Can you say "greedy" and "useless"?) Plus, it does not work. That is, Internet Explorer 8 is NOT compatible with Windows 7, AND there is no option of using an earlier version of IE with Windows 7. Do not buy Windows 7 if you intend to use it and surf the Web, unless you end up using Firefox or Opera. Dear Consumer Protection Agency : MicroSoft cheated customers with poor service and crappy products during the Vista debacle. Windows 7 is just as bad! Yes, MicroSoft did it again! And yes, this is a real user, not some person hired to post this review.
I bought the product with hope of saying "Hasta la vista" Vista but was unable to upgrade because my computer installed language was different from that of the DVD shipped. For it to work I'd have to back up all my files and reinstall all my software, a process of many hours. The seller should specify the language of the Windows 7 to be installed.
I like the software, the one thing I did not realize was the upgrade was from Vista only.
