Midway Arcade Treasures Reviews
about 28 titles are included on the disc & it's kinda fun playing games i used quarters for as a kid. i purchased this game strictly for "paperboy" & "spy hunter". the "spy hunter" gameplay is outdated as expected; but paperboy is a game i can enjoy with my 4 year old.
I'm so sad, that I have my Klax right in my house and I CAN'T USE IT. If you DO have an XBOX regular, and you're around my age (30), this is a game that will bring you to complete nostalgia. This is actually the 2nd time that I've puchased this game. I LOVE THE GAME, don't get me wrong, but the XBOX 360 states that it can play regular XBOX games, and IT CAN'T. It has Rampage, Klax, Root Beer Tapper, just all the old fun that you haven't seen since your childhood.
The games are just as challenging as way-back when in the arcades. The value is unbeatable. Joust is my favorite. The sequel adds some cool twists as well. This is an essential collection for fans of old-school gaming.
CONS: Need a Joystick to Play a lot of games better. PROS: Only way to play these games without X-Box Live. $20 for 20 games.
I am 100% pleased with Arcade Treasures; my only regret is that by all accounts, Treasures 2 just didn't live up to the high standards this title set. The game-selection menu is occasionally a little slow: It loads each game's running demo as you select it, and can lag a bit while doing so. But that's the only performance issue I ever saw with this game - the controls are smooth and totally instinctive, at least on the XBox controller. I originally rented this compilation to keep my girlfriend entertained one night - I saw that it had Joust, one of her favorite childhood video games. What I hadn't realized was just how many of my own favorite childhood games Midway had made: Sinistar, Satan's Hollow, RoadBlasters, 720, and best of all, that gloriously destructive Rampage. We spent five full hours the first night of the rental playing Joust and Rampage together and laughed the entire time. The ability to adjust certain in-game variables (difficulty, number of players and so on) is a nice modern touch.
