case is nearly indestructible. The lens housing twists to adjust the focus of the beam and comes off to allow it to be used as a candle (handy for nights in a tent or during a power outage). I've dropped my Maglite onto hard floors, submerged it in water, and subjected it to the abuses of a tornadic four year old. In addition, an extra bulb resides in the base. The all metal (not plastic). Both ends are threaded and are fitted with snug o-rings to protect the innards from rain, humidity, and submersion.

I keep one in the center console of my car. There are a couple of others (kitchen and garage), just to have around. It's great for old eyes looking at a map or directions at night, when the dome light just isn't quite enough. Well, you've got to have one in each color, right. Just remember to check the batteries every few months, and when the bulb burns out and you use the spare in the rear cap, replace it before you forget (Mag Instrument LM2A001 Replacement Lamp for AA Mini MagLite, 2-Pack).
It's also a help for a quick look under the hood, in the trunk, or under the seat. Why do I own several of these. I have several of these Mini MagLites. I learned my lesson in the 1994 Northridge earthquake; it was still dark and the power was out, and various and sundry things had fallen on the floor it's no fun walking around in the dark with bare feet when there's lots of stuff scattered about. Of course, I keep a regular Mag-Lite in the trunk, too. They're solid, well-made, great little flashlights, with extra features: beam focusing (just twist the head), spare bulb holder (inside the rear cap), and a candle mode (take the head off and it becomes a base for the barrel). Seriously.
I've only had one fail, and that was my fault (I didn't check the batteries in one that was kept in a drawer and an expired battery leaked). I keep one by my home computer for those times when you have to go poking around inside. I keep one in the headboard of my bed, again in case of a power outage. I keep one in my office desk in case of a power outage, or when the timed lights go off in the evening, or for digging around in the computer or copier.
it has good battery life and is extremely durable too.
it has even survived being thrown up into the air and even being run over by a bike.
so this flashlight is worth the money.
this is an excellent flashlight.
but if you buy this flashlight you should buy the led upgrade.

it isn"t as bright as the original bulb but it is almost as bright.
it is a perfect size for everyday use.
They rip and tear off quickly. I have a ballistic holster that I got on Amazon and it's a LOT better and will last for years. I find the flashlights around my local area but they're not at this price. is plain great. well. In a pinch I guess they'd be ok to use one day but that's about all you'd get out it. I simply took the holster and got rid of it. Everything but the holster.
