Mitsubishi HC1600 720p DLP Home Theater Projector Reviews
Prior to this I owned a Infocus X1 with a 2x color wheel as well. Only problem is the excessive rainbow effect from the 2x color wheel. I had no issues with rainbow effect. Only 5% of the population is supposed to have rainbow issues with DLP projectors.
Makes this model virtually unwatchable. The picture on this projector is great. I've had 6 people watch this projector and all have seen excessive rainbow artifacts. I have no idea why Mitsubishi would take a step backwards with a new model.
The HC1500 had a 4x wheel (faster wheel = less rainbows). Bright and vivid with exceptional sharpness. Junk.
I just moving up from an Epson Powerlite S1 standard definition so this was a great improvement at little cost. That makes the real price about $300. I mean, dang if you buy before the end of January 09 you get $100 and a second bulb. I've only been using it for a week as a home theater ceiling mount but it's quiet, bright and easy to adjust with the remote.
After doing a lot of research and weighing the pros and cons I decided on the Mitsubishi. This was a great buy. The hd is stunning. I have my dvd player, playstation, and a satellite receiver hooked up to it and everything comes in crystal clear. This was the first projector I had ever purchased. I feel I made the right decision. I currently have the picture shining on a wall at a 77" diag.
Puts a hole new meaning to "Head Shot" if you are a gamer like me. But again, for the money you save, you can't tell the difference between this one for under $1000 and the 1080p that start at $3k with out it being side by side. I give it 4 stars only because of the screen door effect. From there, you can not see the screen door effect at all. My screen is 10 feet wide by 5.5 feet high and I view it from 15 to 18 feet away. With its HDMI hook up, you get the best visual out put possible.
If you are looking to build your home theater and have a modest budget, this is the projector for you. But unless you are right up on it, you can t see it. For my hard earned dollars, this was the best choice for me. I am over all very happy with my HC1600. I was looking for the best projector I could fined that would fit in my budget. The picture is really good, I do not see any RBE ( Rain Bow Effect ) although is does have screen door effect.
It is very quiet, Blu-Ray looks fantastic, and playing Motor Storm from a cockpit view looks like you are really driving a car, and the zombies in Left 4 Dead are life size.
I wanted a nice 720p projector and I got a nice 720p projector for a nice price. So I decided for this one and used the 400 on the Onkyo S5100 Home Theater. The high definition image is great, and for me its esential for a projector. As for any projector it is desrible a dark room, so with the light off for me its same image you get with a TV, but with the huge diference that you get a huge screen. I'm preatty sure that Epson's Powerlite is a great projector, probably better than this one (it must have a why for the price), but obviously you will buy only one projector and put it on you room, you will not have the other one to compare, and if the one you bought is good enought you will not be sorry for buying that one. I just got my HC1600 projector, so I cant tell about it durability or something like that, but I can say about its image quality.
I'm very very veeeery happy (one more very.). That's it. good luck. Summarizing, I thing Mitsubishi HC1600 projector is the best choice for a 720p projector.
I made a screen for it (that's right, a Do It Youself screen) and turned on "my new toy". That's what happended with me. with my decision. If you are a Cinema lover and have limited resources, I suggest this projector and if there is any money left use it on you home theater sound, like I did with Onkyo S5100 (which also deserve a big review).
There are other opptions where you gonna expend more money, but if you really have money go for a 1080p projector, that's worth. My screen is 67' width, so it's bigger than most large TVs, but you can get a much larger screen if you have enought room. I may say it is much better than I expected. I was thinking between this Mitsubishi and the Epson Powerlite, also 720p, but $400 above.
