Mophie Juice Pack Case and Rechargeable Battery for iPhone 3G, 3G S Reviews
(Used with 3G S) I was primarily interested in this product as a 'sacrificial' battery to prolong the (alleged) 500-cycle life of the internal iPhone battery, not to extend talk time per se. I could never get the thing to charge from the (Apple) AC adapter, only from a USB port- tying your 'extra life' to the availability of a computer. The pack did not run down before the internal battery as advertised by Mophie- it would start out running off the pack, but the use of an app, talking on the phone, or various other activities would inevitably cause it to suddenly switch to the internal battery when the pack had plenty of juice left. Obviously this rendered it useless for my purpose. Had high hopes and was therefore extremely disappointed. This may be more the 'fault' of the phone internals, but if it doesn't work, well, it doesn't work. I hope it can be improved- physically, it seems very well designed.
I just went through my 3rd Mophie Juice Pack. After about six months, the juice packs would just stop working altogether. If I wiggled my 3GS around in the juice pack, it would charge for a second, then stop again. Basically, they became useless. My third juice pack never worked. At all. I charged it twice, the signal indicators on the back were fully lit, yet when I went to charge my iPhone, it would charge for 1-2 minutes and then the juice pack no longer lit up...leaving me frustrated, out of power, and out $80. I'll try the new "Air" version, but if that doesn't work, I'm done with Mophie.
Let me start by saying that the aesthetic design of the Mophie is amazing. I love the look, feel and fit of this device with my iPhone. The problem is that it doesn't work consistently. Read the reviews of others stating that the battery does not last long, it shows a full charge until you put your phone in it etc., etc. They are all true. Don't let the beautiful design fool you. You are wasting your money if you buy one of these for anything other than a case. I bought one for my first iPhone (1G) and was very disappointed with the battery function. It did not last long at all and when the case power was low, the phone would beep constantly as if the connection was "making" and then "breaking" constantly. I stopped using it all together. I then upgraded my iPhone to the 3GS and thought I'd give Mophie another shot as I just love the look of the device. Same battery problems as the 1G model. I hate to have to write this review but the facts remain the same, this product is expensive and did not live up to the hype. Save your money and buy another plug in adaptor (or 3) or give one of the other extended battery options a try before wasting your money on this.
Sorry Mophie, I really, really wanted to like this product. Maybe you should go back to the drawing board with the Engineers as your products just did not work as advertised for me.
I purchased the Juice Pack for my iPhone 3GS. The design is nice, holds phone in place very well and doesn't slip out my hands. But, I was never able to use outside because the battery went dead within the first 20-30 mins after a 12-13hr charge. The return process was very simple but, took 2.5 weeks to get my replacement. The replacement was charged 26 hrs for good measure. Again, lasted less than 30 mins. I Have the mili as well because of the Mophie unreliability. Not as nice a design and the case has a seam that split-open exposing the inside (still works). And, I use it literally all day and have 3 bars out of 4 still showing a charge by the time I get home.
I'm a talkaholic I'll admit it! I can be chatting on the phone for hours at a time. The iPhone was not a huge supporter of my addiction so usually I had a extension cord hooked up in the kitchen so I can plug the iPhone in when my battery was to the point of shutting down the phone. Mophie allowed me true freedom from cords! We frequent Disneyland a lot and our iPhones usually can only stand about half a day. Usually around 5pm we're at about 10% battery life. Instead of going back to the hotel for a recharge, we just pop in the Mophie! We each bought one for our iPhone and my case is very simple to remove but my other-half's is a little more complicated so you might want to find an easy case to remove when needed as the Mophie will not fit otherwise.
Pros- 6 hours of battery life on 3G It will charge your iPhone as well slim, sleek design with included USB your iPhone cable is not needed to sync
Cons- Not super easy to remove. It's hard to remove without lots of fingerprints on your phone Texture of the case does seem to wear easily
