Mr. Bar-B-Q Cast-Iron Wok
Who says you can't enjoy your favorite stir-fry dish on the grill? Instead of cooking indoors, cook out using this wok. It's made of cast iron so it heats up evenly and stays hot for those flash-fry meals. Create an all-veggie dish or add something creative to the mix like barbecue chicken or marinated prawns. Two side handles are wide, offering enough room for grabbing even with cooking mitts on. Flat-bottomed, however not recommended for ceramic-top stoves.
Much heavier than traditional steel woks, this solid cast-iron wok absorbs and retains heat at the high temperatures needed for superior stir-fry cooking. A flat bottom sits the wok securely on a stovetop, gas grill, or charcoal grill, while two loop handles allow for safe lifting with oven mitts. The wok measures 14 inches in diameter (17 inches with handles), and 4 inches deep--generous enough for a family-size meal. The wok must be seasoned before first use to create a nonstick patina that also helps prevent rusting. After washing, apply a thin layer of vegetable oil and heat the wok for one hour. While the wok can be seasoned on a grill, an oven works best. Instructions for the seasoning process are included with the wok. Probably the best spent $15 ever. this wok is so versatile, well made and the size is just right.
After reading a lot of reviews, I decided to buy this one because of it's durability and weight. We both love it. I bought this for my husband for Christmas because he's been wanting to try Chinese cooking.
I have an electric range and it sets nicely on the burner and I've found that if I leave it to heat up for about 5 minutes before adding anything in it does really well at maintaining its heat. I do recommend seasoning it before using it the first time. I received this as a gift and have already put it to use several times. If you are looking for a heavy weight wok, than this is the one. I wiped mine down with regular Crisco and set it in a warm oven (250-300 degrees) for about an hour. My favorite recipe is Chicken Stir-fry and if you're interested in it please check out my guide for it along with some other items that go great with this product. After cooking that first time I did season it once more just to get the cast iron broken in a bit quicker.
I just got the wok I ordered for my parents' x-mas gift, the entire handle is broken off.I gave it a 3 star because it looks like it wouldn't be that bad if it hadn't been broken.It looks like it would hold up fine with everyday use, just not being thrown around like they do at UPS.This sucks. Guess I'll update the rating after I receive a new wok.
The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that I'd like to have a lid for it (stainless steel or cast iron) and it's unavailable. I seasoned it a couple of times and it looks great. This is an excellent wok, perfect fit for my 30" range. It turns out great stir-frys and it's a breeze to season. Great piece to use daily and even better to pass on to your loved ones.
